Hepatitis C therapy with grazoprevir/elbasvir and glecaprevir/pibrentasvir in patients with advanced chronic kidney disease: data from the German Hepatitis C-Registry (DHC-R)
Objectives Grazoprevir/elbasvir and glecaprevir/pibrentasvir (G/P) are the two preferred treatment options for patients with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and a glomerular filtration rate (GFR) (Source: European Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology)

Age and fibrosis index for the prediction of hepatocellular carcinoma risk in patients with high hepatitis B virus DNA but normal alanine aminotransferase
Aim Chronic hepatitis B patients positive for hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) with high serum hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA levels but normal alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels may develop hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, ways to risk stratify are limited. Methods A retrospective cohort of 651 HBeAg positive, adult patients with high serum HBV DNA levels (>7 log IU/ml) but normal or mildly elevated ALT levels ( (Source: European Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology)

Fluoroquinolone-resistant strains in cirrhotic patients with spontaneous bacterial peritonitis: microbiological and molecular aspects
Conclusion Frequent use of antibiotics as prophylaxis against SBP leads to an increase in antibiotic resistance and changes the microbial pattern of causative agents. The gyrA gene mutation was the most common mutation detected in fluoroquinolone-resistant strains. (Source: European Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology)

Design and verification of individualized follow-up strategy of colonoscopy for postoperative patients with colorectal cancer
Conclusions Individual surveillance strategies should be designed for postoperative patients with CRC. For high-risk patients, it is appropriate to undergo more than two colonoscopies in 36 months after operation. (Source: European Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology)

Structural validation and dyadic child–parent measurement invariance of the celiac disease quality of life questionnaire
Conclusion Overall, with minor modifications, the Hebrew version of the CDDUX was found to be a valid measure of children’s celiac-related quality of life when measured across children’s self-reports and parent-proxy reports. The CDDUX provides meaningful measurement and allows child–parent comparison. (Source: European Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology)

A clinical prediction model to assess risk for pancreatic cancer among patients with prediabetes
Conclusions We developed and internally validated a sequential PDA prediction model based on clinical information routinely available at the initial appearance of IFG. If externally validated, this model could significantly extend our ability to detect PDAs at an earlier stage. (Source: European Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology)

Management of coeliac disease patients after the confirmation of diagnosis in Central Europe
Conclusions Follow-up of coeliac disease patients is suboptimal in Central Europe. Many patients are not followed regularly. A lot of patients are not referred to a dietitian. The recommendations on the optimal follow-up of coeliac disease patients are needed in order to improve patient care. (Source: European Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology)

Lack of anti-TNF drugs levels in fistula tissue – a reason for nonresponse in Crohn’s perianal fistulating disease?
Conclusion Absence of detection of the anti-TNF drugs in fistula tissue raises the question on the role of tissue penetrance of anti-TNF drugs in response to therapy. Further work is required in a larger number of patients to validate the findings observed and investigate if any correlation exists between tissue and serum levels of anti-TNF and clinical outcome. Summary Predicting response in Crohn’s fistula patients on biologic therapy is difficult with no reliable biomarkers. This pilot study uses targeted proteomics to investigate the potential role of tissue drug levels in acting as a biomarker of treatmen...

Thirty-day readmission rates, reasons, and costs for gastrointestinal angiodysplasia-related bleeding in the USA
Conclusion Our study shows that one in five patients hospitalized with GIA-related bleeding was readmitted within 30 days of index hospitalization, placing a heavy economic burden on the healthcare system. Further research identifying strategies to reduce readmissions in these patients is needed. (Source: European Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology)

Endocannabinoid system and cannabis hyperemesis syndrome: a narrative update
We describe the putative mechanism of CHS with an overview of the clinical features in these patients. Furthermore, we highlight the differences between CHS and CVS with important differentials to consider. We provide a narrative update on the current evidence on CHS pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment, and identifying research gaps. (Source: European Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology)
