Incidence of Psoriasis in Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Nationwide Population-Based Matched Cohort Study
Conclusions: IBD patients were more likely to develop psoriasis compared to non-IBD subjects, including younger patients at an elevated risk regardless of TNF inhibitor use. This advocates the interplay between IBD and psoriasis; thus, inspection of cutaneous manifestation and dermatological consultation may be helpful in IBD patients at risk.Dermatology (Source: Dermatology)

Radiotherapy for Hidradenitis Suppurativa: A Systematic Review
Background: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory dermatosis characterized by painful nodules, abscesses, sinus tracts, and scarring mainly in the intertriginous areas. Patients with HS often experience inadequate responses to traditional treatment consisting of lifestyle modification, topical and systemic antibiotics, hormonal modulators, biologics, and procedural modalities. Low-dose radiotherapy has been used in benign cutaneous conditions, including HS; however, there is a paucity of literature summarizing its evidence. Herein, we systematically review the current literature on the efficacy of radioth...

First-Line Biologic Therapy and Obesity in Moderate-to-Severe Psoriasis: Results from the Prospective Multicenter Cohort Psobioteq
Conclusion: This study highlighted the lack of difference in prescription of first-line biologic treatment, except for IFX, between obese and non-obese patients presenting moderate-to-severe psoriasis. Drug survival in obese patients is shorter, mainly because of inefficacy, than in non-obese patients. This highlights the need for targeted pharmacological studies in obese individuals to find optimal administration schemes.Dermatology (Source: Dermatology)

A Systematic Review on the Impact of Genetic Testing for Familial Melanoma II: Psychosocial Outcomes and Attitudes
Conclusions: This review has found evidence of few adverse psychological outcomes following genetic testing. There was no indication of increased distress after genetic test results had been disclosed. If these findings were replicated in additional, larger, diverse populations over a longer follow-up period, this would be compelling evidence to guide clinical recommendations.Dermatology (Source: Dermatology)

Practice Variation in Skin Cancer Treatment and Follow-Up Care: A Dutch Claims Database Analysis
Conclusions: Claims data demonstrated large practice variation in treatments and follow-up visits of skin cancer and may be a valid and feasible data set to extract quality indicators. The next step is to investigate whether detected practice variation is unwarranted and if a reduction improves quality and efficiency of care.Dermatology (Source: Dermatology)

Effects of Patients ’ Expectation in Dermatology: Evidence from Experimental and Clinical Placebo Studies and Implications for Dermatologic Practice and Research
Patients ’ expectations towards the benefit of a treatment are key determinants of placebo responses and can affect the development and course of medical conditions and the efficacy and tolerability of active medical treatment. The mechanisms mediating these placebo and nocebo effects have been best descri bed in the field of experimental pain and placebo analgesia. However, also in dermatology experimental and clinical studies demonstrate that various skin diseases such as inflammatory dermatoses and allergic reactions can be modulated by patients’ expectations. Dermatologists should consider the i mportant modulatory...

Implications of Hidradenitis Suppurativa Phenotypes in Cardiovascular Risk and Treatment Decisions: A Retrospective Cohort Study
Conclusions: IP is associated with higher CRP values, suggesting a greater cardiovascular risk in these patients and also a different therapeutic approach. This information could help guide dermatologists in the management of HS patients and help to determine future treatment recommendations.Dermatology (Source: Dermatology)
