Association of Immunosuppressants with Mortality of Patients with Bullous Pemphigoid: A Nationwide Population-Based Cohort Study
Conclusion: Immunosuppressant use was associated with a 22% reduced risk of BP mortality. The effects were more substantial in those aged #x3c;70 years, with a 55% reduced risk of mortality.Dermatology (Source: Dermatology)

Reaching Treatment Goals in Psoriasis with Conventional Systemic Drugs: How Long Are We Willing to Wait?
Conclusion: Patients with onycholysis/nail dystrophy at two or more digits were identified as having a higher risk of not achieving ECP-TGs under conventional systemic therapy. The ECP-TGs from 2011 were attained by 43.6% of our patients 6 months after starting conventional systemic therapies. In the era of safe, fast, and efficacious Pso therapies, much higher treatment goals might be achieved during therapy. New treatment goals are only of use if patients and dermatologists strive to attain them.Dermatology (Source: Dermatology)

Persistence and Severity of Cutaneous Manifestations in IgA Vasculitis Is Associated with Development of IgA Vasculitis Nephritis in Children
Conclusion: With increasing severity and duration of cutaneous manifestations in IgAV, the risk of developing IgAVN increases, making the prognosis worse, with a greater likelihood to need more aggressive treatment.Dermatology (Source: Dermatology)

Dermoscopic Predictors of Benignity and Malignancy in Equivocal Lesions Predominated by Blue Color
Conclusion: In predominantly blue tumors, the probability of malignancy is high when blue color is seen in clods or is asymmetrically distributed and when gray color or linear vessels coexist. In contrast, a diffuse distribution of blue color, its expansion in more than 75% of the surface, and the absence of vessels are highly suggestive of a benign tumor.Dermatology (Source: Dermatology)

Long-Term Effectiveness and Drug Survival of Apremilast in Treating Psoriasis: A Real-World Experience
Conclusions: Apremilast is an effective and well-tolerated therapy for patients with moderate to severe psoriasis, especially for patients with difficult-to-treat locations and/or contraindications to other biologics. Furthermore, apremilast was used for patients with a history of nonresponse to biologics and was favored for patients with relatively low PASI (#x3c;10) and a high DLQI.Dermatology (Source: Dermatology)

Post hoc Analysis of a Randomized, Controlled, Phase 2 Study to Assess Response Rates with Chlormethine/Mechlorethamine Gel in Patients with Stage IA –IIA Mycosis Fungoides
Conclusion: This post hoc analysis shows that treatment with chlormethine gel may result in higher and faster response rates compared with chlormethine ointment, which confirms and expands results reported in the original analysis. The incidence of contact dermatitis may potentially be a prognostic indicator for clinical response; this needs to be confirmed in a larger population.Dermatology (Source: Dermatology)

Atypical and Rare Forms of Cutaneous Lupus Erythematosus: The Importance of the Diagnosis for the Best Management of Patients
Lupus erythematosus (LE) is an autoimmune disease with a wide range of clinical and cutaneous manifestations. Along with the well-known typical cutaneous manifestations of LE, some cutaneous manifestations are rarer, but still characteristic, enabling the dermatologist and the general practitioner who know them to suspect cutaneous LE (CLE) and investigate a possible underlying systemic involvement. Indeed, not infrequently a skin manifestation is the first presentation of systemic LE (SLE), and #x3e;75% of SLE patients show signs of skin disease during the course of the illness. Especially, SLE involvement occurs in cases...

Towards Precision Dermatology: Emerging Role of Proteomic Analysis of the Skin
Background: The skin is the largest organ in the human body and serves as a multilayered protective shield from the environment as well as a sensor and thermal regulator. However, despite its importance, many details about skin structure and function at the molecular level remain incompletely understood. Recent advances in liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) proteomics have enabled the quantification and characterization of the proteomes of a number of clinical samples, including normal and diseased skin.Summary: Here, we review the current state of the art in proteomic analysis of the skin. We provid...

Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children Associated with COVID-19: A Review with an Emphasis on Mucocutaneous and Kawasaki Disease-Like Findings
Background: COronaVIrus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) affects children with less severe symptoms than adults. However, severe COVID-19 paediatric cases are increasingly reported, including patients with Kawasaki disease (KD) or a multisystem inflammatory syndrome (MIS-C) that can present with features resembling KD.Summary: MIS-C is an emerging severe paediatric syndrome associated with COVID-19 that can show overlapping features of KD, KD shock syndrome, and toxic shock syndrome. MIS-C might be an inflammatory disease distinct from KD resulting from an exaggerated immune response. A high prevalence of mucocutaneous manifestatio...

Epidemiological Risk Factors Associated with Acne Vulgaris Presentation, Severity, and Scarring in a Singapore Chinese Population: A Cross-Sectional Study
Conclusion: Positive familial history is a strong predisposing factor in determining acne presentation, severity, and scarring. Demographic factors (gender, age) and sedentary lifestyle (increased computer/TV usage) influence acne presentation, while dietary habits (milk and butter consumption) influence acne severity and scarring. The predisposing factors revealed in this study could help us to gain insights into acne pathophysiology and hence develop interventions especially targeting modifiable risk factors.Dermatology (Source: Dermatology)
