Pruritus, Pain, and Depression Associated with the Most Common Skin Diseases: Data from the French Study “Objectifs Peau”
Conclusion: Pruritus, pain, or other sensory symptoms were found to be common not only in classic pruritic skin diseases but also in acne, rosacea, or warts. The association of pruritus and pain dramatically increased psychological suffering. These symptoms must be systematically searched for in patients, especially since new therapeutic possibilities are emerging for the symptomatic treatment of pruritus.Dermatology (Source: Dermatology)

Proton Pump Inhibitors Are Associated with Increased Risk of Psoriasis: A Nationwide Nested Case-Control Study
Conclusions: PPI use might be associated with an increased risk of developing psoriasis or as an epiphenomenon. Further prospective studies are needed to elucidate the association and underlying mechanisms.Dermatology (Source: Dermatology)

Clinical Outcomes of Advanced-Stage Cutaneous Lymphoma under Low-Dose Gemcitabine Treatment: Real-Life Data from the German Cutaneous Lymphoma Network
Conclusions: This retrospective analysis supports the use of low-dose gemcitabine therapy in CTCL, demonstrating with 62% OR and PFS of 12 months an almost identical response rate and survival as compared to the standard dose therapy reported in previous studies but with a significantly improved safety profile and tolerability.Dermatology (Source: Dermatology)

Hidradenitis Suppurativa in a Large Cohort of Italian Patients: Evaluation of the Burden of Disease
Conclusion: This study offers insight into the disease burden of HS in an Italian population. Our results underline the impact of QoL evaluation, also with the use of the HIDRAdisk, in clinical routine as a support to validated severity clinical and instrumental indexes for a “360-degree” assessment of HS patient’s burden of disease.Dermatology (Source: Dermatology)

Melanotan II User Experience: A Qualitative Study of Online Discussion Forums
Conclusion: Motivations for MT II use included the pursuit of a tanned appearance, often in anticipation of sun holidays and fitness/body building competitions. Clinicians should be aware not only of the potential risks in relation to pigmented skin lesions, but also remain cognisant of the other medical hazards associated with the use of this substance, namely transmission of infectious diseases, use of potentially contaminated products, polypharmacy, and sunbed exposure.Dermatology (Source: Dermatology)

Interferon and Toll-Like Receptor 7 Response in COVID-19: Implications of Topical Imiquimod for Prophylaxis and Treatment
Background: The innate immune system is recognized as an essential aspect of COVID-19 pathogenesis. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are important in inducing antiviral response, triggering downstream production of interferons (IFNs). Certain loss-of-function variants in TLR7 are associated with increased COVID-19 disease severity, and imiquimod (ImiQ) is known to have immunomodulating effects as an agonist of TLR7. Given that topical imiquimod (topImiQ) is indicated for various dermatologic conditions, it is necessary for dermatologists to understand the interplay between innate immunity mechanisms and the potential role of Imi...

Assessing Light and Energy-Based Therapy by Optical Coherence Tomography and Reflectance Confocal Microscopy: A Randomized Trial of Photoaged Skin
Conclusion: Objective OCT and RCM assessment of skin rejuvenation was demonstrated in this study. Importantly, image-based improvements corresponded to favorable clinical skin scores and fewer photoaging characteristics in dermoscopy. Importantly, most changes did not reach statistical significance, prompting further studies and emphasizing the modest value of non-randomized, non-blinded anti-aging trials.Dermatology (Source: Dermatology)

Efficacy and Safety of Janus Kinase Inhibitors for the Treatment of Atopic Dermatitis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Efficacy and Safety of Liquid Nitrogen Cryotherapy for Lichen Simplex Chronicus: A Meta-Analysis
Conclusion: The addition of LNC (applying a cotton swab soaked with liquid nitrogen to wipe the lesion for approximately 10 s each time) to topical ointments, is effective and safe in the treatment of LSC. Increasing the treatment frequency of LNC did not necessarily improve the efficacy.Dermatology (Source: Dermatology)

Diagnosis of Primary Cutaneous Amyloidosis by Rapid 4,6-Diamidino-2-Phenylindole Staining
Conclusion: DAPI staining could serve as a useful technique to establish the diagnosis of PCA, and its high efficacy in diagnosing PCA makes it less dependent on the experience levels of the evaluators. Additionally, the binding of DAPI to the A-T-rich sequence of double-stranded DNA suggests that amyloid may contain DNA or a similarly structured nucleic acid.Dermatology (Source: Dermatology)

Impact of Pregnancy on Hidradenitis Suppurativa Disease Course: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Conclusion: While about a quarter of women will experience an improvement in HS during pregnancy, the majority will have a stable or worsened disease course, and over half of patients will experience a postpartum flare. Close monitoring of HS patients is needed during pregnancy and postpartum periods, as patients may need continued, or even escalated, disease management.Dermatology (Source: Dermatology)
