Dermatologic Research Potential of the Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics (OHDSI) Network
Background: The Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics (OHDSI) network enables access to billions of deidentified, standardized health records and built-in analytics software for observational health research, with numerous potential applications to dermatology. While the use of the OHDSI has increased steadily over the past several years, review of the literature reveals few studies utilizing OHDSI in dermatology. To our knowledge, the University of Colorado School of Medicine is unique in its use of OHDSI for dermatology big data research.Summary: A PubMed search was conducted in August 2020, followed by a li...

Immunoinflammatory Biomarkers in Serum Are Associated with Disease Severity in Atopic Dermatitis
Conclusions: Specific immunoinflammatory biomarkers in the serum, mainly of the Th2 pathway, are correlated with disease severity in patients with AD. Predictive models identified biomarkers associated with disease severity but this finding warrants further investigation.Dermatology (Source: Dermatology)

Estimating the Odds of Ulcerative Colitis-Associated Pyoderma Gangrenosum: A Population-Based Case-Control Study
Conclusions: UC increases the odds of developing PG by 15-fold, with the highest probability of developing PG occurring within the first year after the diagnosis of UC. Patients with UC may be advised to avoid additional precipitating factors for the development of PG.Dermatology (Source: Dermatology)

Cutaneous Histoplasmosis in HIV Seronegative Patients: A Clinicopathological Analysis
Conclusion: A primary cutaneous manifestation ofH. capsulatum infection in non-HIV-infected individuals is extremely rare. Fite stain could aid in differentiating the spores ofH. capsulatum from those of other fungi,Cryptococcus andCandida in particular.Dermatology (Source: Dermatology)

Prurigo Pigmentosa: Demographics and Characteristics in 14 Caucasian Patients
Conclusions: Our observations indicate that PP is not so rare in Europe as previously thought and is often diagnosed after a long delay. Demographics, clinical characteristics and triggering factors in Caucasian patients are similar to those described in the Asian population. Diagnosis is based on the peculiar recurrent course and distinctive clinicopathological features. Tetracyclines represent the first-line therapy in PP.Dermatology (Source: Dermatology)

A Systematic Review on the Impact of Genetic Testing for Familial Melanoma I: Primary and Secondary Preventative Behaviours
Conclusions: Evidence reviewed suggests that genetic testing has a modestly positive impact on preventative behaviour in high-risk individuals. Furthermore, improvements are observed regardless of mutation carrier status, although greater adherence is found in carriers. While additional studies of more diverse cohorts would be needed to inform clinical recommendations, the findings are encouraging and suggest that genetic testing for melanoma has a positive impact on preventative behaviours.Dermatology (Source: Dermatology)

Teledermatology in Times of COVID-19 Confinement: Comparing Patients ’ and Physicians’ Satisfaction by the Standardized Brest Teledermatology Questionnaire
The French government imposed the first COVID-19 pandemic lockdown from March 17 until May 11, 2020. Only emergency cases and teledermatology (TD) were allowed in outpatient settings. A standardized questionnaire was developed to compare the satisfaction level of patients and their treating physicians. Our main question was whether the patients would perceive TD as a valid alternative for direct physical face-to-face consultation. Eighty-two patients and their 4 treating dermatologists from one dermatology department participated in the study (43 females, 39 males) with a mean age of 46.6 years (SD ±23.9). The reason for ...
