Evaluation of Electrocardiogram Parameters and Heart Rate Variability During Blood Pressure Elevation by Phenylephrine in Cirrhotic Rats
Cardiovasc Toxicol. 2024 Feb 26. doi: 10.1007/s12012-024-09839-4. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCirrhotic cardiomyopathy is a myocardial disease that may go undetected in the early stages due to peripheral vasodilatation. The aim of the study was to evaluate the electrocardiogram (ECG) and heart rate variability (HRV) after raising blood pressure by phenylephrine injection in rats with liver cirrhosis. Twenty male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into the Sham and common bile duct ligation (CBDL) groups. After 44 days, animals were anesthetized and the right femoral artery and vein catheterized. After a steady-state period...

Effects of Halloysite Nanotubes and Multi-walled Carbon Nanotubes on Kruppel-like Factor 15-Mediated Downstream Events in Mouse Hearts After Intravenous Injection
In this study, we compared the cardiotoxicity of HNTs and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), focusing on the changes in Kruppel-like factor (KLF)-mediated signaling pathways. Mice were intravenously injected with 50 µg NMs, once a day, for 5 days, and then mouse hearts were removed for experiments. While HNTs or MWCNTs did not induce obvious pathological changes, RNA-sequencing data suggested the alterations of KLF gene expression. We further confirmed an increase of Klf15 positive cells, accompanied by changes in Klf15-related gene ontology (GO) terms. We noticed that most of the changed GO terms are related with th...

Cardiotoxicity After Synthetic Cathinone Use; Two Cases, A Case Series and Scoping Review
In this study, we present two cases, a case series and a scoping review, to explore synthetic cathinone associated cardiotoxicity. Case 1 involved a 28-year-old male with non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction after ingesting a substance containing 4-methylmethcathinone (4-MMC), 3-methylmethcathinon (3-MMC), and methcathinone. Case 2 involved a 49-year-old male with ventricular fibrillation after 4-methylmethcathinone ingestion, who was diagnosed with severe three-vessel disease. A retrospective analysis was performed on self-reported synthetic cathinone poisonings reported to the Dutch Poisons Information Centre from 2012...

Hsa_circ_0032389 Enhances Proliferation and Migration in PDGF-BB-Induced Human Aortic Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells
This study evaluates the role and mechanism of hsa_circ_0032389 in AS process. Platelet-derived growth factor-BB (PDGF-BB) was used to induce human aortic vascular smooth muscle cells (HA-VSMCs). The expression levels of hsa_circ_0032389, microRNA (miR)-513a-5p, and fibroblast growth factor receptor substrate 2 (FRS2) were examined by quantitative real-time PCR. Cell proliferation and migration were analyzed using cell counting kit 8 assay, flow cytometry, EdU assay, transwell assay, and wound healing assay. Protein expression was assessed using western blot analysis. Dual-luciferase reporter and RIP assays were used to co...

CircRNA_102046 Affects the Occurrence and Development of Ischemic Stroke by Regulating the miR-493-5p/ROCK1 Signaling
Cardiovasc Toxicol. 2024 Feb 20. doi: 10.1007/s12012-024-09831-y. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn our previous studies, the results have revealed that circRNA_102046 is significantly upregulated in plasma of patients with ischemic stroke, which closely related to NIHSS score. Human neural stem cells (hNSCs) were used for characterization and subcellular localization of circRNA_102046, and hNSCs OGD/R model was generated. The proliferation of cells was examined by CCK-8 assay. The expression levels of associated molecules were evaluated using RT-qPCR, immunofluorescence staining or western blotting. The binding and co-loca...
