Relationships between obesity markers and bone parameters in community-dwelling older adults
CONCLUSION: Our findings indicate that independent of sex and obesity criteria, when significant, being obese seems to lead to higher bone parameters than being non-obese, except for cortical bone density. Thus, in the obese population, assessing cortical density might help the physician to identify bone alteration. Further researches are needed to confirm our findings.PMID:38421551 | DOI:10.1007/s40520-023-02673-8 (Source: Aging Clinical and Experimental Research)

Concurrent training associated with moderate walnut consumption improved isokinetic strength, subjective sleep quality, cognitive performance and postural balance in elderly active men: a randomized controlled trial
CONCLUSIONS: The present study clearly revealed that concurrent training alone or associated with daily walnut (15 g) consumption for 6 weeks significantly increased knee isokinetic strength, support leg standing parameters and sleep quality. Meanwhile, cognitive performance evaluated by MoCA test and postural balance with dual task were improved for CTW group only.PMID:38421528 | DOI:10.1007/s40520-023-02646-x (Source: Aging Clinical and Experimental Research)

Comparison of three frailty measures for predicting hospitalization and mortality in the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging
CONCLUSION: All three measures of frailty had similar predictive performance. Discrimination was modest for predicting hospitalization and superior in predicting mortality. This likely reflects the objective nature of mortality as an outcome and the challenges in reducing the complex concept of healthcare utilization to a single variable such as any overnight hospitalization.PMID:38418612 | DOI:10.1007/s40520-024-02706-w (Source: Aging Clinical and Experimental Research)

Multidomain interventions for sarcopenia and cognitive flexibility in older adults for promoting healthy aging: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Aging Clin Exp Res. 2024 Feb 22;36(1):47. doi: 10.1007/s40520-024-02700-2.ABSTRACTThe global population is undergoing rapid aging, making physical activity a crucial element in preventing mortality and lowering the risk of Alzheimer's disease. Age-related declines in muscle mass and cognitive abilities significantly contribute to frailty and dependency. Thus, this study focuses on a meticulous analysis of the protective effects of multidomain interventions, an emerging resource combating age-related declines. It seeks to underscore their profound impact on cognitive flexibility and sarcopenia, highlighting their pivotal ro...

The relationship between trajectories of renal oxygen saturation and acute kidney injury: a prospective cohort study with a secondary analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Older patients undergoing hepatectomy may show high-downwards trajectory of renal tissue RSO2, indicating a higher risk of AKI, and the lowest level was identified during the hepatic occlusion period. These findings may help to provide potential candidates for future early recognition of deterioration of kidney function and guide interventions.PMID:38381262 | DOI:10.1007/s40520-024-02701-1 (Source: Aging Clinical and Experimental Research)

Systemic osteoarthritis: the difficulty of categorically naming a continuous condition
Aging Clin Exp Res. 2024 Feb 20;36(1):45. doi: 10.1007/s40520-024-02714-w.ABSTRACTOsteoarthritis (OA) is a disease with systemic implications that go beyond joint problems. Its pathogenic mechanisms involve a variety of systemic conditions that contribute to joint damage. These include metabolic dysfunction, chronic low-grade inflammation, neuroplastic pain, and the influence of the central nervous system in the development of neuropathic pain. Besides, OA can negatively affect other aspects of health, such as quality of life, reduced physical activity, social isolation, depression, and anxiety. OA can be considered a comp...

Association of reduced cerebrospinal fluid NPTX2 levels with postoperative delirium in patients undergoing knee/hip replacement: a prospective cohort study
CONCLUSION: CSF NPTX2 levels were associated with the occurrence of POD. Low CSF NPTX2 levels may be an independent protective factor for POD. CSF T-tau and P-tau could mediate the association between CSF NPTX2 and POD occurrence.CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRATION: The trial registration number (TRN): ChiCTR2200064740, Date of Registration: 2022-10-15.PMID:38367123 | PMC:PMC10874313 | DOI:10.1007/s40520-023-02670-x (Source: Aging Clinical and Experimental Research)

Association of mobile device proficiency and subjective cognitive complaints with financial management ability among community-dwelling older adults: a population-based cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: The LPM group showed an impaired ability to manage their finances, particularly in situations where they would use information devices. Therefore, healthcare professionals should assess not only the SCC but also their proficiency with mobile devices to predict their impairment in activities of daily living.PMID:38367133 | PMC:PMC10874308 | DOI:10.1007/s40520-024-02697-8 (Source: Aging Clinical and Experimental Research)
