An examination of the validity of neuropsychological and physical testing batteries in Latin-American adults aged over 55  years
CONCLUSION: Our findings provide validity evidence for simplified and reduced testing batteries, which imply shorter testing times and fewer resources.PMID:37989993 | DOI:10.1007/s40520-023-02612-7 (Source: Aging Clinical and Experimental Research)

Protective effect of intranasal insulin on postoperative cognitive dysfunction in elderly patients with metabolic syndrome undergoing noncardiac surgery: a randomized clinical trial
CONCLUSIONS: Intranasal insulin administration reduced the incidence of POCD and alleviated peripheral inflammatory levels in elderly patients with metabolic syndrome.TRIAL REGISTRY: Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (ChiCTR1800015502).PMID:37993761 | DOI:10.1007/s40520-023-02593-7 (Source: Aging Clinical and Experimental Research)

CHD-related/specific mortality of 3.17 million people in a transitioning region: trends, risk factors, and prevention
CONCLUSIONS: Our results indicate that the CHD burden in Pudong has been persistently increasing, but in the age group of 70-79 years, substantial declines were observed. The quality of primary healthcare services may be a critical point in addressing the overwhelming CHD burden.PMID:37985650 | DOI:10.1007/s40520-023-02618-1 (Source: Aging Clinical and Experimental Research)

Associations of telomere length with risk of mortality from influenza and pneumonia in US adults: a prospective cohort study of NHANES 1999-2002
CONCLUSIONS: Our research provides further proof for the connection between shorter telomeres and higher influenza-pneumonia mortality. Larger prospective researches are essential to support our results and explain the underlying mechanisms.PMID:37962763 | DOI:10.1007/s40520-023-02607-4 (Source: Aging Clinical and Experimental Research)

Knowledge and willingness toward SARS-CoV-2 rapid antigen testing among older adults in China: a nationwide cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: The levels of RAT knowledge and willingness to take RAT among older adults in China may hinder the scale-up of RAT. Health education about RAT should be strengthened among older adults. Special efforts should be made to integrate traditional and new media to promote RAT among older adults, specifically, for virus susceptibility and the convenience of RAT. Given the reopening of society, our study could inform our response to future novel infectious diseases and aid in the timely scale-up of RAT.PMID:37962764 | DOI:10.1007/s40520-023-02615-4 (Source: Aging Clinical and Experimental Research)

An orthogeriatric service can reduce prolonged hospital length of stay in hospital for older adults admitted with hip fractures: a monocentric study
CONCLUSIONS: Implementation of an orthogeriatric service generated significant reductions in hospital LOS for all patients, with associated cost-savings, especially for those discharged to nursing care.PMID:37962765 | DOI:10.1007/s40520-023-02616-3 (Source: Aging Clinical and Experimental Research)
