Determinants of health status in older patients with transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis: a prospective cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: Functional status is a determinant of quality of life and health status in older individuals with a main diagnosis of ATTR-CA. Future research may provide more in-depth knowledge on the association of frailty in patients with ATTR-CA with respect to quality of life and prognosis.PMID:38598143 | PMC:PMC11006758 | DOI:10.1007/s40520-024-02750-6 (Source: Aging Clinical and Experimental Research)

Mortality risk relationship using standard categorized BMI or knee-height based BMI - does the overweight/lower mortality paradox hold true?
CONCLUSION: Regardless of classic BMI or KH-BMI estimation, overweight men and women aged ≥ 80 years had a lower mortality risk compared to normal/underweight men and women ≥ 80 years.PMID:38587702 | PMC:PMC11001730 | DOI:10.1007/s40520-024-02742-6 (Source: Aging Clinical and Experimental Research)

Deficits in force production during multifinger tasks demarcate cognitive dysfunction
CONCLUSIONS: The outcomes add weight to the assertion that deficits in force production during multifinger tasks are sensitive to cognitive dysfunction.PMID:38578525 | PMC:PMC10997684 | DOI:10.1007/s40520-024-02723-9 (Source: Aging Clinical and Experimental Research)

Effectiveness of binaural beat music combined with rhythmical photic stimulation on older people with depressive symptoms in long-term care institution: a quasi-experimental pilot study
CONCLUSION: The two-week intervention suggests that the combination of BBM and RPS, as a non-invasive intervention, can potentially improve vitality, mental health, and depressive mood among older adults in long-term care institutions.PMID:38558209 | PMC:PMC10984885 | DOI:10.1007/s40520-024-02737-3 (Source: Aging Clinical and Experimental Research)

Longitudinal changes in life-space mobility and autonomy in participation outdoors among Finnish community-dwelling older adults from pre-COVID-19 to through the pandemic
CONCLUSIONS: For older people, the recovery of community mobility was incomplete after the restrictions stemming from the pandemic were lifted. Older adults with impaired lower extremity performance and who did not drive were particularly vulnerable to developing restricted life-space mobility, a situation that could lead to social isolation and reduced well-being.PMID:38558262 | PMC:PMC10984880 | DOI:10.1007/s40520-024-02734-6 (Source: Aging Clinical and Experimental Research)

Does presbygeusia really exist? An updated narrative review
In conclusion, presbygeusia exists even in the absence of comorbidities or drug side effects, but its impact on dietary choices in the elderly is likely modest.PMID:38558357 | PMC:PMC10984891 | DOI:10.1007/s40520-024-02739-1 (Source: Aging Clinical and Experimental Research)
