Cancer incidence among visual artists: 45 years of follow-up in four Nordic countries
CONCLUSIONS: The non-elevated incidence of lung cancer suggests a similar prevalence of smoking between visual artists and the general population, while the elevated risk of cancers of mouth and pharynx among male visual artists is suggestive of more widespread alcohol drinking. The excess risk of urogenital cancers might be associated with exposure to solvents.PMID:37796162 | DOI:10.1080/0284186X.2023.2263150 (Source: Acta Oncologica)

Prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV) types 16 and 18 in cervical cancer in Stockholm, Sweden during 2019-2023 compared to 2003-2008
CONCLUSION: The joint prevalence of HPV16 and 18 in SCC and ADC tended to be slightly lower in 2019-2023 as compared to 2003-2008, but the difference was not statistically significant.PMID:37793801 | DOI:10.1080/0284186X.2023.2264485 (Source: Acta Oncologica)

Treatment patterns, survival, and healthcare utilisation and costs in patients with locally advanced and metastatic bladder cancer in Denmark 2015-2020
CONCLUSION: Patients with La/mUBC have a poor prognosis, and in routine clinical care only around half of the patients received systemic anti-cancer treatment suggesting an unmet need for novel treatments. The overall costs only increased slightly from first to third-line treatment.PMID:37787748 | DOI:10.1080/0284186X.2023.2263154 (Source: Acta Oncologica)

Comparison of cutaneous adverse events between second-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitors and imatinib for chronic myeloid leukemia: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Eleven trials involving 4502 patients were analyzed in this study. Patients treated with second-generation TKIs were significantly more likely to experience cutaneous adverse events than those treated with imatinib with a relative risk (RR) of 1.62 (95% confidence interval [CI], [1.25-2.09]). Except dasatinib (RR [95% CI], 1.39 [0.75-2.56]), the risk of adverse events was more with second-generation TKIs than with imatinib as follows: nilotinib (2.11 [1.53-2.90]), bosutinib (1.41 [1.07-1.86]), and radotinib (1.87 [1.33-2.63]). Rash was the most common cutaneous adverse event that was observed in 21.6% of cases ...

Plan robustness evaluation strategies in whole-pelvic proton therapy for high-risk prostate cancer patients within a randomised clinical trial
CONCLUSION: The PRE strategy predicted the DRE scenarios for CTVp and rectum. CTVe, bladder, and bowel showed more complex anatomical variations than simulated by the PRE isocenter shift. Both original and recalculated nominal treatment plans showed robust treatment delivery in terms of target coverage.PMID:37773941 | DOI:10.1080/0284186X.2023.2261621 (Source: Acta Oncologica)

Complications after proton radiotherapy in children, focusing on severe late complications. A complete Swedish cohort 2008-2019
CONCLUSION: The most important result of our study is the relatively low proportion of severe late complications, comparable with other proton studies on various tumours. Furthermore, the numbers of late complications are lower than our own data set on a mixed population of photon and proton treated paediatric patients, assuring the safety of using proton therapy also in the clinical practice.PMID:37768736 | DOI:10.1080/0284186X.2023.2260946 (Source: Acta Oncologica)

The impact of implementing current treatment modalities and female sex on gastric cancer outcomes, 2000-2016: a longitudinal nationwide cohort study
CONCLUSION: Preoperative oncological treatment was gradually introduced into clinical practice and OS among gastric surgery patients improved. Moreover, female surgical patients exhibited a better survival than male patients.PMID:37750187 | DOI:10.1080/0284186X.2023.2259081 (Source: Acta Oncologica)

Diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer in Denmark during the COVID-19 pandemic: a nationwide population-based study
CONCLUSIONS: During the pandemic, a small decrease in the number of breast cancer diagnoses was observed particularly among socially disadvantaged groups. Overall, the quality of breast cancer treatment was maintained.PMID:37750293 | DOI:10.1080/0284186X.2023.2259598 (Source: Acta Oncologica)
