Evaluation of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes and mammographic density as predictors of response to neoadjuvant systemic therapy in breast cancer
CONCLUSION: TILs significantly predicted NAST response. We could not define MD as a significant predictor of NAST response. These findings should be further replicated.PMID:37934084 | DOI:10.1080/0284186X.2023.2274483 (Source: Acta Oncologica)

Treatment outcomes of non-small cell lung cancers treated with EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors: a real-world cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: EGFR mutants treated with afatinib have improved outcomes compared to gefitinib while later-line osimertinib was applied only for around 20% of the individuals. The study further highlights the good real-world performance of EGFR TKIs and sheds light on therapy sequencing.PMID:37934101 | DOI:10.1080/0284186X.2023.2274481 (Source: Acta Oncologica)

Opium use and risk of colorectal cancer: a multi-center case-referent study in Iran
CONCLUSION: There seems to be no overall association between opium use and CRC, but the risk of CRC might be increased among persons who use opium many times a day.PMID:37934078 | DOI:10.1080/0284186X.2023.2276326 (Source: Acta Oncologica)

The effect of a smoking cessation program for patients in cancer treatment: a quasi-experimental intervention study
CONCLUSION: Offering a structured smoking cessation program based on Motivational Interviewing and cost-free nicotine replacement products to cancer patients can increase cessation rates in comparison to standard smoking cessation care.PMID:37930762 | DOI:10.1080/0284186X.2023.2277883 (Source: Acta Oncologica)

Predictors of preparedness for recovery following colorectal cancer surgery: a latent class trajectory analysis
CONCLUSION: Contrary to the received view that emphasizes standardized care practices, our results point to the need for adding person-centred and tailored approaches that consider individual differences in how patients are prepared before and during the recovery period related to colorectal cancer surgery.PMID:37921342 | DOI:10.1080/0284186X.2023.2269303 (Source: Acta Oncologica)

Prevalence and predictors for fertility-related distress among 1010 young adults 1.5 years following cancer diagnosis - results from the population-based Fex-Can Cohort study
CONCLUSION: This nationwide study found a high prevalence of fertility-related distress in young women and men recently treated for cancer and identified sociodemographic and psychological predictors. Fertility preservation was not found to act as a buffer against fertility-related distress, indicating the continuous need to identify strategies to alleviate fertility distress following cancer.PMID:37909865 | DOI:10.1080/0284186X.2023.2272291 (Source: Acta Oncologica)

Active Breathing Coordinator reduces radiation dose to the stomach in patients with left breast cancer
CONCLUSIONS: The implementation of ABC-DIBH in LSBCPs radiotherapy resulted in lower irradiation of the stomach. Larger stomach volume was associated with statistically significantly higher dose irradiation in FB mode. To reduce radiotherapy related side effects in FB mode, patients should be fast for at least 2 hours before the CT simulation and treatment.PMID:37909907 | DOI:10.1080/0284186X.2023.2275288 (Source: Acta Oncologica)
