Glycemic Control and Obesity Among People With Type 2 Diabetes in Europe and Australia: A Retrospective Cohort Analysis
ConclusionsThis study presents data on HbA1c and BMI among type 2 diabetes (T2D) populations in Europe and Australia. A notable proportion of PwT2D had obesity and were above HBA1c target. Higher BMI was associated with poorer glycemic control. (Source: Diabetes Therapy)

Association between arachidonate lipoxygenase 15,c.-292  C  & gt;  T gene polymorphism and non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis in children: a pilot study on the effects on airway lipoxin A4 and disease phenotype
ConclusionsLow airway LXA4 in children with NCFB is associated with severe disease phenotype and lung function deterioration.CTgenotype ofALOX-15,c.-292 C> Tpolymorphism might be a protective genetic factor against bronchiectasis development and/or progression due to enhanced LXA4 production. Association between arachidonate lipoxygenase 15,c.-292 C   >  T gene polymorphism and non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis in children: a pilot study on the effects on airway lipoxin A4 and disease phenotype
Persistent airway inflammation is a central feature of bronchiectasis. Arachidonate 15-lipoxygenase (ALOX-15) controls production of endogenous lipid mediators, including lipoxins that regulate airway inflamma... (Source: Italian Journal of Pediatrics)

Long-term benefits of exclusive human milk diet in small for gestational age neonates: a systematic review of the literature
AbstractEvidence about feeding practices ’ consequences in small for gestational age newborns is not well established because they are less likely to initiate and continue breastfeeding than other newborns. Our aim was to study current knowledge about the benefits of exclusive human milk diet after 2 years of age in small for gestational age newborns. A systematic review of the literature was conducted according to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guideline criteria. Pubmed and Scopus were searched for studies published from databases inception until June 2, 2023. Included artic...

Italian neonatal birthweight charts derived from INeS not separated by birth order
ConclusionsThe study presents non-separated Birth Weight INeS charts, bridging the gap when parity information is unavailable. Differences with separated charts were generally small, making them reliable for neonatal health assessment. Insights from L and S parameters contribute to standardized birth weight and adjust it by sex and Gestational Age, useful for defining SGA or LGA neonates. The paper enhances neonatal care tools, showcasing INeS chart flexibility in different clinical scenarios and supporting neonatology research. (Source: Italian Journal of Pediatrics)

Anxiety and depression in metabolic-associated steatotic liver disease: relation with socio-demographic features and liver disease severity
ConclusionThe risk of anxiety and depression in MASLD is not different from that generated by diabetes and obesity per se. MASLD patients do not perceive liver disease as a specific source of psychological distress, possibly as a consequence of the unawareness of progressive liver disease. (Source: Acta Diabetologica)

Italian peninsula as a hybridization zone of Ixodes inopinatus and I. ricinus and the prevalence of tick-borne pathogens in I. inopinatus, I. ricinus, and their hybrids

Conversion rate to open surgery during transanal total mesorectal excision (TaTME) for rectal cancer: a single-center experience
AbstractMinimally invasive techniques for rectal cancer have demonstrated considerable advantages in terms of faster recovery and less post-operative complications. However, due to the complex anatomy and a limited surgical field, conversion to open surgery is still sometimes required, with a negative impact on the short-and long-term outcomes. The purpose of this study was to analyse the conversion rate to open abdominal surgery during laparoscopic transanal total mesorectal excision (TaTME) procedures performed at a high-volume Italian referral center. All consecutive TaTME performed for mid-to-low rectal cancer between ...

Prevalence of FMS Diagnosis According to ACR 2016 Revised Criteria in a Pain Therapy Centre in Italy: Observational Study
Conclusions: This prospective observational study confirmed the diagnostic challenge with FMS, as demonstrated by the moderate grade of agreement between the FMS diagnosis at discharge and the positivity for 2016 ACR criteria. In our opinion, the use of widely accepted diagnostic guidelines should be implemented in clinical scenarios and should become a common language among clinicians who evaluate and treat patients reporting widespread pain and FMS-suggestive symptoms. Further methodologically stronger studies will be necessary to validate our observation.PMID:38674245 | DOI:10.3390/medicina60040599 (Source: Pain Physician)

Adherence to Diet Quality Indices and Breast Cancer Risk in the Italian ORDET Cohort
In conclusion, these results suggest that adherence to a typical Italian Mediterranean diet protects against BC development, especially among postmenopausal women, possibly through modulation of chronic low-grade inflammation.PMID:38674877 | DOI:10.3390/nu16081187 (Source: Cancer Control)
