While there is evidence of increased uptake in these practices, such as study preregistration and open data, facilitated by new infrastructure and policies, little research has assessed general uptake of such practices across psychology university researchers. The current study estimates psychologists' level of engagement in open research practices across universities in the United Kingdom and Ireland, while also assessing possible explanatory factors th...

Validity of galactin-3 in acromegaly: comparison with traditional markers
ConclusionIn a summary, this study recommended clinicians measure serum Gal-3 as biomarkers for patients with acromegaly. In addition, the result above shed light on role of Gal-3 on acromegaly pathogenesis and might provide a therapeutic target of acromegaly patients. (Source: Irish Journal of Medical Science)

Association between chitinase-3-like protein 1 and metabolic-associated fatty liver disease in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus
ConclusionsSerum CHI3L1 demonstrates an association with significant liver fibrosis. High serum levels of CHI3L1 may indicate the existence of significant liver fibrosis in T2DM-MAFLD patients. (Source: Irish Journal of Medical Science)

Adherence and Persistence to Basal Insulin Among People with Type  2 Diabetes in Europe: A Systematic Literature Review and Meta-analysis
ConclusionThe results highlight that almost half of patients with T2D in Western Europe have poor adherence to insulin therapy and, at 18  months, one in three patients do not persist on treatment. These findings call for new basal insulin therapies and diabetes management strategies that can improve treatment persistence and adherence among people with T2D. (Source: Diabetes Therapy)

Predictors of inpatient suicide in an Irish psychiatric service, a longitudinal case-control study
CONCLUSIONS: While not highly sensitive, a period of absence without leave, tertiary referral and hopelessness are important predictors of inpatient suicide risk that treating teams should consider in care planning.PMID:38517159 | DOI:10.1111/sltb.13073 (Source: Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior)

Study of prevalence, risk factors for acute kidney injury, and mortality in liver cirrhosis patients
ConclusionAKI is common in cirrhosis of liver patients. Elevated levels of direct bilirubin and MELD score emerged as significant factors associated with AKI development. Furthermore, AKI and MELD scores were identified as independent risk factors for mortality at both 30 and 90  days. Survival rates were influenced by both the type and stage of AKI; AKI stage 3 and ATN patients had significantly higher mortality rate. Early AKI detection and management are crucial for reducing mortality risk in liver cirrhosis patients. (Source: Irish Journal of Medical Science)
