Indonesia's healthcare landscape: embracing innovation in the new health regime
Curr Med Res Opin. 2024 Apr 29:1-8. doi: 10.1080/03007995.2024.2349732. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe comment highlights the intricate health issues in Indonesia, emphasizing urban-rural gaps, healthcare financing challenges, and the government's dedication to Universal Health Coverage (UHC). The country's geographical layout amplifies the struggle of providing healthcare to rural areas, resulting in substantial health concerns like high tuberculosis rates and financial vulnerability for the impoverished. The concern raised underscores the paradox of low state healthcare spending despite high household expenditures, le...

Association between the severity of hard-to-treat psoriasis and the prevalence of metabolic syndrome: A hospital-based cross-sectional study in Jakarta, Indonesia
This study found most frequent components of MetS were abdominal obesity, decreased levels of HDL cholesterol, hypertension, hyperglycemia, and hypertriglyceridemia respectively. Individuals with severe hard-to-treat psoriasis had a 3.67 times more likely to have MetS rather than the mild-moderate group. (Source: PLoS One)

Triiodothyronine Supplementation for Children Undergoing Cardiopulmonary Bypass: A Meta-Analysis
AbstractSpecific pediatric populations have exhibited disparate responses to triiodothyronine (T3) repletion during and after cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). Objective: To determine if T3 supplementation improves outcomes in children undergoing CPB. We searched randomized controlled trials (RCT) evaluating T3 supplementation in children aged 0 –3 years undergoing CPB between 1/1/2000 and 1/31/2022. We calculated Hazard ratios (HR) for time to extubation (TTE), ICU length of stay (LOS), and hospital LOS. 5 RCTs met inclusion criteria with available patient-level data. Two were performed in United States (US) and 3 in Indon...

Treatment Nonadherence among Multimorbid Chronic Disease Patients: Evidence from 3515 Subjects in Indonesia
Conclusions: While the prevalence of multimorbidity in Indonesia is generally similar to that observed in previous studies, we have identified patient characteristics related to nonadherence. We suggest that patient's nonadherence was primarily dictated by their self-perception of health and treatment complexity. With the longstanding issue of nonadherence, this study indicated the need to consider creating patient-tailored treatment programs in clinical practice to improve adherence by considering individual patients' characteristics.PMID:38674280 | PMC:PMC11052292 | DOI:10.3390/medicina60040634 (Source: Medicina (Kaunas))

Single nucleotide polymorphisms of growth hormone gene in cattle and their association with growth traits: a systematic review
This study shows that there is a lack of evidence on effect of growth hormone gene on growth traits in cattle. However, more studies are recommended for further validation of the identified SNPs and effect of growth hormone gene on growth traits in cattle. (Source: Tropical Animal Health and Production)

Phylogeography and gene pool analysis of highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 viruses reported in India from 2006 to 2021
AbstractIndia has reported highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 virus outbreaks since 2006, with the first human case reported in 2021. These included viruses belonging to the clades 2.2, 2.2.2, 2.2.2.1, 2.3.2.1a, and 2.3.2.1c. There are currently no data on the gene pool of HPAI H5N1 viruses in India. Molecular clock and phylogeography analysis of the HA and NA genes; and phylogenetic analysis of the internal genes of H5N1 viruses from India were carried out. Sequences reported from 2006 to 2015; and sequences from 2021 that were available in online databases were used in the analysis. Five separate introductions...
