Effect of a Nutritional Education Program on Children's Undernutrition in Indonesia: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Children's undernutrition is a severe public health issue (Ssentongo et al., 2021). The World Health Organization (WHO, 2021a) defines children's undernutrition as a deficiency or imbalance in the intake of energy and nutrients, and includes wasting (i.e., low weight-for-height), stunting (i.e., low height-for-age), and being underweight (i.e., low weight-for-age). Globally, around 462 million children under 5 years were assessed as being underweight, a million children were stunted, and 45 million exhibited wasting (WHO, 2021b). Wolbachia-carrying Aedes mosquitoes for preventing dengue infection
CONCLUSIONS: The included trial demonstrates the potential significant impact of wMel-Wolbachia-carrying Ae aegypti mosquitoes on preventing dengue infection in an endemic setting, and supports evidence reported in non-randomized and uncontrolled studies. Further trials across a greater diversity of settings are required to confirm whether these findings apply to other locations and country settings, and greater reporting of acceptability and cost are important.PMID:38597256 | DOI:10.1002/14651858.CD015636.pub2 (Source: Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews)

Regulatory landscape and public perception for gene-edited bananas in the Southeast Asian region
Transgenic Res. 2024 Apr 10. doi: 10.1007/s11248-024-00379-9. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBanana is a premier fruit crop in many parts of the world especially Southeast Asia. The demand for banana has contributed to significant national income to primary banana producers in the SEA region such as the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia. However, the widely traded banana industry is plagued by numerous threats including pests and diseases, post-harvest issues and extreme climate vulnerability. To address these challenges, new breeding techniques such as gene editing have been explored for breeding prog...
