anti competition
I know many like to complain about Hospitals and their admin. You can now actually do something. IT takes about 1min to do. IF hospitals are 'forcing' you or your docs to refer internally d/t metrics being used against you. Write it up. If we all do this, we can actually make a change. Even if you are NOT in private practice, you may want to be one day. Also strengthen your leverage if you are employed. Chances of Matching w/o STEP scores
Hello! Just wanted to get a general idea of whether or not it would be worth applying next cycle.... US-DO grad, IM residency at small community hospital, no STEP scores, all COMLEX with a one failed attempt at Level 1. Passed Level 2/3 on first try. 3 publications (none as first author), one publication pending (not first author), working on a case report currently (first author), 5 poster presentations, extensive leadership and volunteer activities. Certain that I would get outstanding... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Should I scribe or do research in my gap year for T20 acceptance?
GPA: 3.92 MCAT: 518 Clinical Hours: 300 (150 hospital transport, 75 hospice, 75 First Aid) Non-Clinical Hours: 310 (250 Crisis Text Line, 60 Homeless Shelter) Research: 200 hours, no publication I want to apply and maybe get into a Top 20 medical school. Should I spend my gap year as a scribe or should I look for a research position? What would be recommended for me to do? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Questions to ask hospital employed first anesthesia job?
Hey All, Have some interviews coming up. The majority of places I'll be interviewing at are hospital employed. Salary, benefits, are relatively straightforward and explained pretty well in the benefits package. What are some of the other real important questions you wished you asked on some of your first job interviews? I'm going to focus more on the culture of the group, who makes the call schedule, how fairly cases are assigned, etc. Correct me if I'm wrong but I would imagine a lot of... WCUCOM vs NYITCOM-AR
Hello everyone! I am thrilled to have 2 acceptances, but I am torn between the 2. Please share any insight!! Both schools have relaxed dress code and non-mandatory lectures besides OMM, anatomy, etc. so I left those off the pros/cons list. WCUCOM Pros: P/F grading WCUCOM Cons: can't find the match list (will email them about this) haven't visited the campus yet so unsure of how the town/campus is no affiliated hospital for rotations NYITCOM-AR Pros: loved the campus when I visited, I... Ophthalmology
Hi! Is there anyone here who has volunteered as an Ophthalmology Resident in a private clinic? I would like to know what duties you had, if you learned something and if it is worth going there in addition to the hours at the hospital. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Heidi AI Clinical Scribe / Dictation/ The future of notes and scribing
So - I've read people on this forum/elsewhere previously speaking about AI, dictation and what I assumed would be big hospital infrastructure costs ie. the good stuff would be inaccessible to small private practice doctors. Randomly yesterday, I saw an ad for Heidi on facebook (I had never heard of it before yesterday). I'm pretty skeptical about clicking ads and I'm very skeptical about anything medical that is shared online because its mostly teaser garbage that will rapidly lead to a... UAMS NW vs OU
Hey, got accepted at two schools in places where I’ve got family. Both are similarly ranked schools and are similar situations for me. UAMS NW is in a better place for me to pursue outdoor activities. UAMS NW Pros: - family - rotate in hospitals without surgical residents, I get more hands on during those rotations (I’m interested in surgical residency) - small class size (20 per class in NW campus) - close to outdoor activities, which I want to stay engaged in during med school - in... FTC bans noncompete clauses
Any thoughts on this? I personally am excited for this because the thought of someone telling me I essentially can’t work in my home city or elsewhere because I left their employment is disgusting to me. I’m glad it’s happening before I graduate and finish residency since that will give time for litigation to sort all this out. I’m interested to see if there will be some pushback from hospitals pretending to be non-profits, but who may not want a closer look from the FTC... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
