Would like thoughts/Advice on my steps going forward
This is my first post on here but I have been viewing this forum for the last couple of months. I would like opinions and advice from anyone willing to give it, on my steps going forward from here. Here is some background information… Last May, I got a job as a sterile processing tech at a hospital close to me, working 36 hours a week. This made me fall in love with medicine again as I completely wrote it off as a possibility and it never came to mind for some reason. One thing that I... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Adrenal incidentaloma - how much do y'all work it up in the hospital?
Question for hospitalists out there. CT imaging so often shows an adrenal incidentaloma. I see various practices regarding what is done, and I'm wondering what y'all's practices are. 1) Rule out hormonal activity in the hospital (aldosterone renin ratio, dexamethasone overnight suppression test, or assess metanephrines) before discharge. 2) Order repeat imaging but defer hormonal evaluation to outpatient setting 3) Defer hormonal evaluation and repeat imaging to the outpatient follow up... Fair wages for outpatient secretary- California
I am in the process of hiring a secretary (as 1099) to my psych office. The secretary will work remotely most of the days ( she will be in the office once a week). The work involves in answering calls, scheduling appointments and processing claims (calling insurance for claims denied and so on). My EMR is luminello, so I submit the claims myself (but sometimes we spend time calling insurance for several issues). I check the average wages for "hospital secretary" and it shows as... Cardiac Team models
Looking for examples of how other groups with dedicated heart teams take call and all the other logistics. Our hospital/CT surgeons are pushing us to create a dedicated heart team separate from the generalists. They want 4 first starts for the CT surgeons and 1 cath lab daily. One of the CT surgeons is new and will be ramping up a heart failure program with significant increases in numbers of ecmo and LVAD placement. How many anesthesiologists would you recommend? How should we split... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Transferring Schools for More Clinical Opportunities
Hi! I'm currently a first-year at my undergrad. I'm considering applying to transfer for the Fall of 2024 (my sophomore year). One of the main reasons is for more clinical opportunities. I currently go to a liberal arts institution in a rural environment and the nearest hospital doesn't do more than 8 hours of shadowing or volunteering. If I were to shadow or get any clinical experience, I would have to drive around an hour to a bigger city. EMS is not an option in the area and basically... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Career Guidance Needed
I am early-mid career Emergency Medicine, currently W2 employed by a large hospital system and have been given the opportunity to join an independent democratic group. Their partnership track seems fair (2 years; minimally more hours than I work now). Their pre-partner pay is essentially the same as I make now (maybe even a little more), which makes the financial risk of joining essentially zero. Obviously, there are significant benefits once you make partner. Current job: I've stagnated... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

MS3 need advice choosing: IM vs. psych
Hi, I'm applying for residency this year and struggling to choose a specialty - psych vs. IM. If I do IM, I'll likely pursue endocrinology since I enjoy working in clinic and don't love procedures. Here are what I see as the pros/cons - I appreciate any input! Psych pros: -ability to run my own practice/work outside of a hospital setting -I'm really interested in psychotherapy, and I enjoyed reading my psychiatry textbook -I hate working nights, and psych offers opportunity for a regular...
