AI for clinical notes
Anyone using AI to generate clinical notes? My understanding is it listens to your visit and transcribes it. I have heard good things about GetFreed. Our hospital is trialing DAX copilot. With my templates I copy and paste relevant info from my old notes and takes me about 3 min typing for follow-up and 5 mins for new. At least that's a guess, I think I'll time myself to see. Usually I do about half the documentation while patient is in the room and finish as they are checking oit6. Not... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Hospital APPE project
Hi! I am in need of some great ideas for a project I am doing for my hospital APPE. What do you think are some pharmacy areas of improvement for central hospital pharmacists? I am thinking of choosing a topic (Ex. efficacy of DOACs and ensuring adherence) and seeing how the data differs from the hospital I am currently at (ex. why pts on DOACs are in the hospital) and then how pharmacy can increase adherence (ex. switching from apixaban to dabigatran with a 340b program, giving medication... Should I mention that I received training to be a medical scribe, but never ended up working as one due to COVID?
I'm thinking of my application for the upcoming cycle. In Summer 2021, I went through the Scribe101 process up to working 2 weeks at a Family Medicine hospital for the last parts of training (so in total, about 90 hours). They decided after that that they couldn't keep me on, I think due to COVID regulations but also possibly due to finances (the hospital went under this past summer). I don't think it was due to my job performance, because after the first week, I didn't even have to stay... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Clinical paid experience
Hi everyone! I am a non-traditional student who recently graduated with a Comp Sci degree, working a tech job, and has decided to switch to medicine. I am international, so I am still on my student visa and tied to the jobs related to my major. This makes me sad that I can't work as an EMT / CNA / MA, etc.... how am I supposed to get into medical school if I don't do these things? I am starting to volunteer in a hospital + in a hospice in the next few weeks to gain some volunteer... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Med student dilemma: hospital exposure vs. study time!
Hi! My school has ties with several hospitals, and I'm in the process of ranking my preferences. I'd love to get some input on my options. Here is my dilemma: prioritize more time in hospital (eg. more work hours) vs more study time for shelf exams and Step 2, considering step 2 will likely replace step 1 letters of recommendation from more established hospitals with more trailblazers in the field (eg. Henry Ford) Clinical evaluations, which seem to be more lenient at... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How to discharge Severely, morbidly Obese (BMI > 50) patients?
For the hospitalists in the group: How do you discharge your grotesquely morbid obese patients? How do you get them out of the hospital, if they're too fat to get out of bed, but otherwise medically complete/ok? If they can't bear any weight on their legs? Can't go to a SNF (because they can't participate in PT). Can't go home (its not a 'safe discharge', despite the fact that many came from their God-awful mess of a home). Can't do LTAC. I have one BMI > 70, total jerk of a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

CL psych and brain failure
I am a resident that has done a little over 3 months of CL. I really try to read on medical topics as they come up so as not to lose all my medical knowledge, but it’s hard. I am definitely no diagnostic genius, unfortunately. I am fascinated by delirium, especially the absolutely wacky incompatible realities that patients can report while delirious (e.g., one pt telling me we are hiding from a wind storm in an office building downtown, and that we are in a hospital). But also, I have... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Advice Paying off Loans :(
Hi everyone! Sorry if this has already been answered, but I’m interested to hear other people’s opinions/experiences with different debt relief programs. I’m a current first year so I still have time, but my debt is already adding up lol. Does anyone have experience with the army or their health professions scholarship? I’m also interested in how it works at hospitals who offer debt relief packages. Is it worth it to work at a corporate hospital with loan payment options? I really want to... What is a normal patient volume?
Just curious. I’m early out of residency and just not sure what is normal for a community type hospital based practice. I see about 10-15 consults a week, and about 30-40 followups, with about 20-25 on treatment. Averaging about 70 patient visits per week. Also have tumor board at 630am on 3 days per week (not helping with my energy levels). We also do a lot of brachy and spaceoar, sbrt. Suppose I’d just like to know if this is normal, because then I can go with it. But if not normal, then... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
