Anesthesiologist shortage
Not much new but some nice anecdotes of hospital administrators finding out what happens when you don’t have a functioning anesthesia department. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2949916X2400001X (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Clowns
One of the reasons I left my hospital employed job was the lack of any semblance of Leadership. I might be off base, but I view the filling of shift holes to fall as the feet of the people who call themselves leaders (chair, etc) if no other coverage can be found. How does it work at your shop? Clinical vs Non-clinical Volunteering
Hey I have a serious question, I have very limited non-clinical volunteering. Like 60 hours, and it was 2 years ago. I’ve been volunteering for 4 hours a week for a year at my local hospital, and about a year and a half more for 2 hours a week. I also happen to work at another nearby hospital as an MRI tech. I’ve never done my clinical volunteering to get health care exposure, it’s always been to help the less fortunate. Hell, I help the less fortunate every day as an MRI tech, it’s one of... Albert Einstein Vs Downstate- Both Schools in Trouble
Hi all, I’m a NY resident applicant that is fortunate to have acceptances to both Albert Einstein and SUNY Downstate. However if you read the news, both schools are facing headwinds that might impact my education/degree. Downstate- Not even 2 weeks ago, it was announced they’re closing their inpatient wing of their main teaching hospital. Seems like not a lot of current staff/faculty know their future. I’m concerned this will impact my chance to go to in-house residency 4 years from now... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Middle East FRSD vs FH experience
Hey everyone, Trying to keep this anonymous as possible, but I’m an army reservist being deployed to either an FRSD or Field Hospital later this fall in the ME. What expectations should I have for the deployment, and any tips you can give from your own experiences? Excited to finally have this opportunity. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

RFU vs SIU
Hi everyone! I am experiencing decision paralysis, so I hope that this community can provide some insight. Rosalind Franklin Pros Opportunities to rotate in Chicagoland hospitals Slightly more well-known More hope in this location to be close to my boyfriend next year (although he has not yet applied to med school, there are plenty of programs in the area that he could end up at) Cons Significantly more expensive (although-- is there any chance for...
