Ophthalmology
Hi! Is there anyone here who has volunteered as an Ophthalmology Resident in a private clinic? I would like to know what duties you had, if you learned something and if it is worth going there in addition to the hours at the hospital. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Heidi AI Clinical Scribe / Dictation/ The future of notes and scribing
So - I've read people on this forum/elsewhere previously speaking about AI, dictation and what I assumed would be big hospital infrastructure costs ie. the good stuff would be inaccessible to small private practice doctors. Randomly yesterday, I saw an ad for Heidi on facebook (I had never heard of it before yesterday). I'm pretty skeptical about clicking ads and I'm very skeptical about anything medical that is shared online because its mostly teaser garbage that will rapidly lead to a... UAMS NW vs OU
Hey, got accepted at two schools in places where I’ve got family. Both are similarly ranked schools and are similar situations for me. UAMS NW is in a better place for me to pursue outdoor activities. UAMS NW Pros: - family - rotate in hospitals without surgical residents, I get more hands on during those rotations (I’m interested in surgical residency) - small class size (20 per class in NW campus) - close to outdoor activities, which I want to stay engaged in during med school - in... FTC bans noncompete clauses
Any thoughts on this? I personally am excited for this because the thought of someone telling me I essentially can’t work in my home city or elsewhere because I left their employment is disgusting to me. I’m glad it’s happening before I graduate and finish residency since that will give time for litigation to sort all this out. I’m interested to see if there will be some pushback from hospitals pretending to be non-profits, but who may not want a closer look from the FTC... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

FTC Bans Noncompetes
FTC Announces Rule Banning Noncompetes | Federal Trade Commission I imagine group practices will be less likely to hire, and more private practices would be created overall. Unsure about hospital employment for psychologists? I know noncompetes are ubiquitous among hospital-employed physicians. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Summer Job Question
Hi y'all! I'm trying to decide what I should do this summer to best improve my future application. I'll be going into my junior year next year. During the school year I do research and last summer I volunteered at a hospital. I have a couple options now. 1. I was offered a job at a food bank to work on their kids program. The only real con about this job is it starts very early in the morning and is far away from my house. 2. I have an interview coming up for a camp counselor job for kids... Paramedic vs. EMS/EMT for aspiring premeds (what is your perspective?)
General question from some conversations: A few premed applicants have expressed concern that there is greater value in being a "paramedic" versus an EMT. For those who might be interested, can you provide your thoughts about the differences (whether one is "better" than the other for medical school preparation)? What do you wish non-clinical application screeners knew about the difference? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Northwestern (Feinberg) vs UChicago (Pritzker)
Really tough spot for me right now. Biggest factor right now is that FSM offered me 75% tuition (less than any other offer I have been given; Mayo -- Full tuition (50 merit/ 50 need); Case Western -- 78% tuition; UChicago -- Full tuition, negotiating for stipend). Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine: Pros: Great location (~10 min from my condo) Know a lot of incoming students Good vibe ECMH Prosected anatomy lab Better hospital system/residency programs (if I... Glad to be alive, but I need some help.
I have a bit of a unique situation, and I would like some guidance moving forward with respect to applying this cycle. I began my college career as a nursing major, and transferred to Biology after working in the hospital as a tech for a period of time. I realized rather late into my college career that the autonomy, and intellectual stimulation of becoming a physician was what I would rather be doing. Unfortunately, by the time I had realized this, I was already a senior in undergraduate... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

SUNY Upstate vs SUNY Downstate
I'm sure this has been done before, and they're two very different schools. For context, I would love to be in NYC not just for med school but for residency and beyond. So I have been leaning Downstate for some time. But with the hospital closure, and other things I've seen online, I'm having a hard time deciding! Similar FA/tuition although NYC COL is obviously much higher than Syracuse/CNY. SUNY Upstate Pros Year 2 of a new curriculum that appears to have some really great...
