Estimating the Allocation of the Economic Value Generated by Utilization of All-Oral Direct-Acting Antivirals for Hepatitis C in the United States, 2015 –2019
Between 2013 –2019, several all-oral direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) were launched with the potential to cure patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV). They generated economic value in terms of the health gains for patients and cost-savings for the US healthcare system. We estimated the share of this value alloca ted to four manufacturers vs society. (Source: Value in Health)

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1606: Seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 and Hepatitis B Virus Coinfections among Ethiopians with Acute Leukemia
new Rawleigh Howe SARS-CoV-2 and blood-borne viral coinfections are well reported. Nevertheless, little is known regarding the seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 and coinfection with blood-borne viruses in hematologic malignancy patients in Ethiopia. We aimed to assess the seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 and associated infections with hepatitis B and other viruses among adolescent and adult acute leukemia patients at Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. A cross-sectional study was conducted from July 2020 to June 2021. Blood samples were tested for the presence of anti-SARS-CoV-2, HBV, HCV, and HIV with ...

Elevated serum HE4 levels as a novel biomarker of disease severity and hepatic fibrosis in autoimmune hepatitis
CONCLUSIONS: Serum HE4 levels were found to be elevated in AIH-LC patients and exhibited a strong correlation with the severity of hepatic fibrosis, thus supporting their potential clinical value as a novel biomarker of disease severity and hepatic fibrosis in AIH.PMID:38643819 | DOI:10.1016/j.cca.2024.119682 (Source: International Journal of Clinical Chemistry)

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1582: Hepatocellular Carcinoma: Current Drug Therapeutic Status, Advances and Challenges
Wanjin Hong Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common form of liver cancer, accounting for ~90% of liver neoplasms. It is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths and the seventh most common cancer worldwide. Although there have been rapid developments in the treatment of HCC over the past decade, the incidence and mortality rates of HCC remain a challenge. With the widespread use of the hepatitis B vaccine and antiviral therapy, the etiology of HCC is shifting more toward metabolic-associated steatohepatitis (MASH). Early-stage HCC can be treated with potentially curative strategies such as surgical...

Fonction de l'ARNnc exosomal HEIH dans le carcinome h épatocellulaire associé au virus de l'hépatite B
This study aimed to investigate the expression of exosomal lncRNA-HEIH in B-HCC patients and explore its clinical significance. We collected blood samples from 60 B-HCC patients, 60 non-hepatitis virus-associated HCC (N-HCC) patients, and 50 healthy volunteers. Exosomal lncRNA-HEIH levels were measured by real-time PCR and analyzed for their correlation with patient prognosis using Kaplan-Meier analysis. Multivariate COX regression analysis was conducted to identify factors affecting patient outcomes. The effects of lncRNA-HEIH on carcinogenesis were also investigated by constructing a Huh7 cell line stably expressing the ...

Communicable Disease Screening and Human Immunodeficiency Virus Prevention in the Emergency Department
Emerg Med Clin North Am. 2024 May;42(2):369-389. doi: 10.1016/j.emc.2024.02.007. Epub 2024 Mar 19.ABSTRACTEmergency departments (ED) provide care to populations with high rates of communicable diseases, like HIV, hepatitis C virus, and syphilis. For many patients, the ED is their sole entry point into the healthcare system and they do not routinely access screening and prevention services elsewhere. As such, the ED can serve an important public health role through communicable disease identification, treatment, and prevention. In this article, we examine national recommendations, peer-reviewed literature, and expert consen...

Trends in Mortality Related to Hepatitis B and C from 1990 to 2019 in the Western Pacific Region
CONCLUSIONS: : Although the mortality rate from hepatitis B and C decreased from 1990 to 2019, notable variation was observed among 27 Western Pacific countries. Efforts targeting hepatitis B and C prevention and treatment are still required in this region, especially for the pandemic countries.PMID:38638100 | DOI:10.5009/gnl230023 (Source: Gut and Liver)
