In-depth characterization of the sarcoplasmic muscle proteome changes in lambs fed with hazelnut skin by-products: Relationships with meat color
This study investigated the effect of agro-industrial hazelnut skin by-products supplementation on lamb meat color variation and the changes in the sarcoplasmic muscle proteome during post-mortem storage (0, 4 and 7 days). Gel-based proteomics and bioinformatics approaches were applied to better understand the potential role of feeding strategies in modulating the mechanisms underpinning meat discoloration and post-mortem changes during storage. Therefore, twenty-two Valle del Belice male lambs were randomly assigned to two dietary treatments: control (C), lambs fed with maize-barley diet, and hazelnut skin (H), lambs fed ...

In-house validation of an LC-MS method for the multiplexed quantitative determination of total allergenic food in chocolate
Anal Bioanal Chem. 2023 Aug 24. doi: 10.1007/s00216-023-04894-2. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMass spectrometry has been widely accepted as a confirmatory tool for the sensitive detection of undeclared presence of allergenic ingredients. Multiple methods have been developed so far, achieving different levels of sensitivity and robustness, still lacking harmonization of the analytical validation and impairing comparability of results. In this investigation, a quantitative method has been validated in-house for the determination of six allergenic ingredients (cow's milk, hen's egg, peanut, soybean, hazelnut, and almond) in ...

Green synthesized Ag nanoparticles stimulate gene expression and paclitaxel production in Corylus avellana cells
Appl Microbiol Biotechnol. 2023 Aug 8. doi: 10.1007/s00253-023-12683-1. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSynthesis of nanoparticles (NPs) through plant extracts has been suggested as an effective and nature-friendly method. Paclitaxel is one of the most valuable secondary metabolites with therapeutic uses, and hazelnut has been suggested as one of the sustainable resources for producing this metabolite. In the present study, we synthesized Ag NPs using the ethanolic extract of C. avellana leaves and were characterized using UV-visible, FTIR, XRD, EDX, DLS, SEM, and TEM analyses. In addition, we investigated the effect of gree...

Sensitization to nut allergens in children with food allergy and other atopic diseases - just a coexistence?
CONCLUSIONS: The analysis of sensitization patterns may help to identify patients with an increased risk, and gives the opportunity to introduce more effective prophylaxis. However, since even the first exposure to nuts may be sufficient to trigger the anaphylaxis, this risk should be considered as a serious issue at any age.PMID:37545822 | PMC:PMC10399669 | DOI:10.5114/ada.2023.128991 (Source: Advances in Dermatology and Allergology)
