Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 7269: A Review of Foods of Plant Origin as Sources of Vitamins with Proven Activity in Oxidative Stress Prevention According to EFSA Scientific Evidence
¡mara Beyond their nutritional benefits, vitamins could decrease the risk of chronic diseases due to their potent antioxidant capacity. The present work is aimed at reviewing the state of the art regarding (1) the vitamins involved in oxidative stress prevention in accordance with the requirements established by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and (2) the foods of plant origin that are sources of those vitamins and have potential benefits against oxidative stress in humans. According to the European regulations based on EFSA scientific evidence, riboflavin, vitamin C, and vitamin E are those vitamins subjecte...

Fast impedimetric immunosensing of IgGs associated with peanut and hazelnut allergens
Biosens Bioelectron. 2023 Aug 19;242:115612. doi: 10.1016/j.bios.2023.115612. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFood allergies trigger a variety of clinical adverse symptoms and clinical evidence suggests that the presence of food allergy-related IgG can be helpful in the diagnosis when analyzed at the peptide-epitope level. To validate and select the peptides based on their specificity toward hazelnut or peanut epitopes, the authors of this study developed a silicon-based microchip coupled with click-chemistry bound peptides identified by the Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology. Peptides related to hazelnut a...

Comparative evaluation of nutrient composition, in vitro nutritional value, and antioxidant activity of de-oiled meals from walnut, hazelnut, almond, and sesame
This study aimed to establish a comparative database on the chemical composition, in vitro nutritional value, and antioxidant activity of the de-oiled meals produced from walnut, hazelnut, almond, and sesame seeds from the ruminant nutrition perspective. The meals were provided in dried form after their oil harvest using the cold-pressing oil extraction method. Crude protein (CP) constituted the major component of the meals and was the greatest in walnut and almond (average of 45.6% of dry matter (DM)], intermediate in hazelnut meal (41.4%), and least in sesame meal (33.3%)). Potassium was the most abundant mineral in waln...

In-depth characterization of the sarcoplasmic muscle proteome changes in lambs fed with hazelnut skin by-products: Relationships with meat color
This study investigated the effect of agro-industrial hazelnut skin by-products supplementation on lamb meat color variation and the changes in the sarcoplasmic muscle proteome during post-mortem storage (0, 4 and 7 days). Gel-based proteomics and bioinformatics approaches were applied to better understand the potential role of feeding strategies in modulating the mechanisms underpinning meat discoloration and post-mortem changes during storage. Therefore, twenty-two Valle del Belice male lambs were randomly assigned to two dietary treatments: control (C), lambs fed with maize-barley diet, and hazelnut skin (H), lambs fed ...
