The diagnostic workup of children with the radiologically isolated syndrome differs by age and by sex
ConclusionsYounger children with RIS may be at continued risk for misdiagnosis and misclassification of MS risk. Consensus guidelines are needed. (Source: Journal of Neurology)

Maltreatment and Parent-Child Attachment as Predictors of Dating Violence and Risky Sexual Behaviour Among High-Risk Teens
This study differentiated developmentally appropriate, exploratory sexual behaviours from RSB and examined whether maltreatment experiences and parent-child attachment in adolescence predicted DV and RSB reported five years later in a high-risk sample. Participants were 179 adolescents (46% girls;Mage = 15.34, range  = 12–18 years) at risk for aggressive and antisocial behaviour. Adolescents reported their maltreatment histories and attachment to their parents at Time 1; five years later, at Time 2, they reported their experiences with DV perpetration and victimization and engagement in RSB. Both bivariat e correlati...

Anastrozole monotherapy further improves near-adult height after the initial combined treatment with leuprorelin and anastrozole in early-maturing girls with compromised growth prediction: results from the second phase of the GAIL study
ConclusionsIn early-maturing girls with compromised growth potential, the combined treatment with leuprorelin and anastrozole for 2 years or until the age of 11 years resulted in a total gain in height of +9.7 cm when continuing anastrozole monotherapy until the attainment of NAH, as opposed to +7.4 cm if they do not continue with the anastrozole monotherapy and +3.6 cm when treated with leuprorelin alone. Thus, the combined intervention ends at the shortest distance from the target height if continued with anastrozole monotherapy until BA 14 years. (Source: Frontiers in Endocrinology)

Endoscopic transorbital approach in children: surgical technique and early results
CONCLUSIONS: In select cases, the ETOA can be considered a minimally invasive alternative for conventional skull base approaches in the armamentarium of pediatric skull base surgery. Further investigation and the accumulation of experience are warranted in the future to enhance the efficacy and applicability of the ETOA in pediatric patients.PMID:38560935 | DOI:10.3171/2024.1.FOCUS23858 (Source: Neurosurgical Focus)

Associations of Serum Irisin and Fibroblast Growth Factor-21 Levels With Bone Mineral Characteristics in Eumenorrheic Adolescent Athletes With Different Training Activity Patterns
CONCLUSIONS: Serum irisin and FGF-21 levels were not different between adolescent eumenorrheic girls with different training activity patterns. FGF-21 was positively associated with lumbar spine areal bone mineral density, which predominantly consists of trabecular bone in adolescent rhythmic gymnasts.PMID:38560997 | DOI:10.1123/pes.2023-0166 (Source: Pediatric Exercise Science)
