Osteoprotegerin and receptor activator of the nuclear factor kappa B ligand (RANKL) in healthy pubertal girls - relationships with physical growth and classical bone turnover markers
J Physiol Pharmacol. 2023 Feb;75(1). doi: 10.26402/jpp.2024.1.06. Epub 2024 Apr 3.ABSTRACTOsteoprotegerin (OPG) is a trap receptor for the receptor activator of the nuclear factor kappa B ligand (RANKL). We aimed to determine the OPG and free soluble RANKL (sRANKL) concentrations in girls during puberty and their relationships with pubertal stage, growth rate and serum concentrations of estradiol, as well as classical bone formation (N-terminal propeptide of type I collagen (PINP), bone-specific alkaline phosphatase (BALP), osteocalcin (OC)) and bone resorption (C-terminal telopeptide of type I collagen (CTX)) markers. The...

Factors influencing adolescent pregnancies with intent for child trafficking in selected vulnerable communities in Nigeria: A qualitative exploration
This study examines the determinants of deliberate adolescent pregnancies aimed at selling newborns to child traffickers in Nigeria. Employing a qualitative design, purposive sampling was utilized to select 46 participants, including eight pregnant adolescent girls (aged 11 to 16), seven family members of the pregnant adolescents, six community leaders, and twenty-five community members. Semi-structured in-depth interviews and focus group discussions were used. Audio-recorded interviews were meticulously transcribed and translated from Ibibio to English by certified language experts to preserve meaning. Thematic analysis e...

Genes, Vol. 15, Pages 463: Therapeutic Management and Outcomes of Hepatoblastoma in a Pediatric Patient with Mosaic Edwards Syndrome
andowska The mosaic form of Edwards syndrome affects 5% of all children with Edwards syndrome. The clinical phenotype is highly variable, ranging from the full spectrum of trisomy 18 to the normal phenotype. The purpose of this publication was to present the therapeutic process in an 18-month-old girl with the mosaic form of Edwards syndrome and hepatoblastoma, against the background of other cases of simultaneous occurrence of this syndrome and hepatoblastoma described so far. It appears that this particular group of patients with hepatoblastoma and Edwards syndrome can have good outcomes, provided they do not have li...

Does a nature walk improve state body appreciation in children?
Body Image. 2024 Apr 5;49:101707. doi: 10.1016/j.bodyim.2024.101707. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe available evidence suggests that exposure to natural environments promotes more positive body image, but to date this research has not considered impacts on children. To answer this question, we invited two groups of children in Poland - matched in terms of age (range = 6 to 12 years), gender identities, and racialised status - to go for a group walk in either a natural environment (n = 80) or a built environment (n = 81). Before and after the walks, participants were asked to complete an adapted, state version of the Bod...

Paediatric hepatic angiosarcoma with consumptive hypothyroidism —an important diagnostic pitfall to avoid during evaluation of hepatic vascular tumours
We present a case of hepatic angiosarcoma in a 20-month-old girl, associated with consumptive hypothyroidism and, as a result, initially misdiagnosed as infantile hepatic haemangioma. Radiologists should be aware that consumptive hypothyroidism is not a reliable feature to use in  excluding paediatric hepatic angiosarcoma. Biopsy should be performed in patients older than 1 year of age or with atypical imaging features.Graphical abstract (Source: Pediatric Radiology)
