Does a nature walk improve state body appreciation in children?
Body Image. 2024 Apr 5;49:101707. doi: 10.1016/j.bodyim.2024.101707. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe available evidence suggests that exposure to natural environments promotes more positive body image, but to date this research has not considered impacts on children. To answer this question, we invited two groups of children in Poland - matched in terms of age (range = 6 to 12 years), gender identities, and racialised status - to go for a group walk in either a natural environment (n = 80) or a built environment (n = 81). Before and after the walks, participants were asked to complete an adapted, state version of the Bod...

Paediatric hepatic angiosarcoma with consumptive hypothyroidism —an important diagnostic pitfall to avoid during evaluation of hepatic vascular tumours
We present a case of hepatic angiosarcoma in a 20-month-old girl, associated with consumptive hypothyroidism and, as a result, initially misdiagnosed as infantile hepatic haemangioma. Radiologists should be aware that consumptive hypothyroidism is not a reliable feature to use in  excluding paediatric hepatic angiosarcoma. Biopsy should be performed in patients older than 1 year of age or with atypical imaging features.Graphical abstract (Source: Pediatric Radiology)

Aberrant regeneration of accommodation in pediatric inferior division oculomotor palsy
Aberrant regeneration occurs in forms of oculomotor motor nerve palsy and frequently involves the pupil, but the incidence and functional impact of ciliary muscle involvement in pediatric patients is sparsely reported in the literature. A 4-year-old girl presented with inflammatory oculomotor motor nerve paresis affecting the inferior division. Initial treatment focused on her inability to accommodate through her physiologic +2.5 D hyperopia and the prevention and treatment of amblyopia. She subsequently developed aberrant regeneration of the pupil, with miosis on adduction. (Source: Journal of AAPOS)

Spontaneous collapse of an iris stromal cyst in a young child
A 4-month-old girl was referred for evaluation of an anterior chamber cyst in the left eye. Examination under anesthesia (EUA) revealed a large iris stromal cyst in the anterior chamber involving the angle and the pupillary border, with touch of the corneal endothelium and anterior lens capsule. Intraocular pressure was normal. There was no anisometropic refractive error by retinoscopy. Close observation with amblyopia management was recommended as the pupil was only partially occluded by the cyst, and there was a clear red reflex around the cyst. (Source: Journal of AAPOS)

The Day-Level Association Between Child Care Attendance and 24-Hour Movement Behaviors in Preschool-Aged Children
CONCLUSIONS: Child care attendance was not associated with 24-hour PA or sleep; however, it was associated with less ST. More research utilizing objective measures of ST and more robust measures of daily schedules or structure is necessary to better understand how existing infrastructure may influence preschool-aged children's 24-hour movement behaviors. In addition, future research should consider how access to child care may influence child care attendance.PMID:38580305 | DOI:10.1123/jpah.2023-0656 (Source: Journal of Physical Activity and Health)

The associations among sleep-related difficulties, anxiety, and error-related brain activity in youth
Biol Psychol. 2024 Apr 3;188:108790. doi: 10.1016/j.biopsycho.2024.108790. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGiven the high prevalence of anxiety disorders and their associated impairment, elucidating neural mechanisms related to these disorders has been increasingly prioritized. The error-related negativity (ERN) has been identified as a neural marker that indexes risk for anxiety across development. The ERN seems to confer risk for developing anxiety, especially in the context of stressful life events. The present study sought to examine sleep-related difficulties as another stressful factor that might impact the ERN. In a s...

Distribution of < em > TGFBI < /em > variants in patients with early onset glaucoma
CONCLUSIONS: The possibility that variations in the TGFBI gene could have a possible role in the pathogenesis of congenital and juvenile onset open-angle glaucomas needs further evaluation.PMID:38577561 | PMC:PMC10994680 (Source: Molecular Vision)

Multiple Prenatal Exposures and Acute Care Clinical Encounters for Asthma among Children Born to Mothers Living near a Superfund Site
We examined the association between prenatal exposures and the risk of childhood asthma acute care clinical encounters (hospitalization, emergency department visit, observational stay) using conditional logistic regression with a multivariable smooth to model the interaction between continuous variables, adjusted for maternal characteristics, and stratified by sex. All births near the New Bedford Harbor (NBH) Superfund site (2000-2006) were followed through 2011 using the Massachusetts Pregnancy to Early Life Longitudinal data system to identify children ages 5-11 with asthma acute care clinical encounters (265 cases among...

Drug-induced lupus erythematosus in childhood: Case-based review
CONCLUSION: For children presenting with SLE features, proper drug history is crucial since DILE may be more frequent than anticipated. An association of the relevant drug with the symptoms, and resolution of symptoms on drug withdrawal provides evidence for the diagnosis of DILE.PMID:38580326 | DOI:10.1177/09612033241245078 (Source: Lupus)

Progressive Impairment of Prepubertal Growth in Children With APECED
CONCLUSIONS: Children with APECED had a progressive growth impairment from birth through prepuberty. Multiple predisposing risk factors were recognized, including disease severity and growth hormone deficiency. Timely interventions are needed to ensure optimal height attainment and new treatment options need to be developed.PMID:38578980 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgae209 (Source: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism)

Recurrent fibroepithelial vaginal polyp in a 2-year-old girl: a case report and review of the literature
CONCLUSION: This case report highlights recurrent FEPV in a 2-year-old girl. Despite previous excisions, polyps recurred, emphasizing the need for complete excision. Documenting cases will enhance our understanding. Further research is needed to elucidate the pathogenesis of paediatric FEPV. Early detection, treatment, and follow-up are essential for optimal management.PMID:38576976 | PMC:PMC10990311 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001836 (Source: Annals of Medicine)

Ataxia telangiectasia: a rare case report from Nepal
CONCLUSION: A-T is a complex disorder with no cure. Genetic counseling for parents is vital. Its poor prognosis due to infection susceptibility and cancer risk necessitates supportive care. Comprehensive management, including genetic counseling and careful surveillance, is imperative.PMID:38576962 | PMC:PMC10990361 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001831 (Source: Annals of Medicine)
