Cultural practices supporting early motherhood in a Ghanaian community
This study explored cultural practices and beliefs in a study area in Ghana that encourage teenage girls into motherhood unintendedly. An exploratory design was used. Thirty teenage mothers and twenty-two opinion leaders participated in fieldwork conducted between October 2018 and February 2019. Data were analysed using an inductive approach. Four themes became apparent: fear of being cursed for having an abortion; sleeping arrangements; funerals and wakes; and practices of cohabitation in the study area. Cultural practices contribute to teenage motherhood in the Adaklu District of Ghana. Programmes, interventions and poli...

Explaining the prospective paths from body appreciation to intuitive eating facets: Does body image flexibility serve as a mediator?
Body Image. 2024 Apr 2;49:101710. doi: 10.1016/j.bodyim.2024.101710. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTInitial evidence suggests that body appreciation prospectively predicts intuitive eating. However, the limited number of longitudinal studies focused solely on girls and women, with a lack of evaluation among men. Furthermore, the underlying mechanisms explaining this relationship remain poorly understood. The present study examined whether body appreciation prospectively predicted intuitive eating facets among women and men in Germany. We also tested whether adaptive affect regulation skills (i.e., body image flexibility) me...

Childhood Transitions Between Weight Status Categories: Evidence from the UK Millennium Cohort Study
ConclusionsOur models generated estimates of bodyweight status transitions in a representative UK childhood population. Compared to our scenario models (i.e., time-homogeneous transition rates), our base-case model fits the observed data best, indicating a non-time-homogeneous pattern in transitions between bodyweight categories during childhood. Transition hazards varied significantly by age and across subpopulations, suggesting that conducting subgroup-specific cost-effectiveness analyses of childhood weight management interventions will optimize decision-making. Boldness, meanness and disinhibition as predictors of indirect/direct type of aggressive behavior in youth
CONCLUSIONS: The results showed that disinhibition and meanness can be considered as significant personality risk factors for aggressive behaviors and violence not only in adults but also in adolescents. The study supported also the heterogeneity of the triarchic model of psychopathy itself.PMID:38564520 | DOI:10.12740/PP/158898 (Source: Psychiatria Polska)

Congenital Facial Infiltrating Lipomatosis: A Rare Cause of Facial Asymmetry in Infants
Ear Nose Throat J. 2024 Apr 1:1455613241241869. doi: 10.1177/01455613241241869. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCongenital facial infiltrating lipomatosis (CFIL) is a rare condition that typically affects the trunk and limbs, but can also occur in the face. Managing CFIL is a significant challenge due to its diffuse involvement in important facial structures. This case report aims to describe a rare form of lipomatosis and discuss the clinical and therapeutic aspects of this entity. The patient was a 5-year-old girl who was admitted to our department due to a right paralateronasal swelling that had been present for 5 months....

Trajectories of intimate partner violence and their relationship to stress among young women in South Africa: An HPTN 068 study
CONCLUSIONS: Sustained IPV risk during adolescence was associated with elevated CRP in young adulthood. The relationship between IPV and elevated CMV was attenuated among those receiving a CT, suggesting that CTs could possibly reduce biological stress due to IPV.PMID:38563376 | DOI:10.1177/00207640241239535 (Source: The International Journal of Social Psychiatry)
