Fungicides from rice cultivation (tebuconazole and azoxystrobin) alters biochemical and histological markers of hammertoad tadpoles (Boanafaber)
Environ Pollut. 2023 Nov 10:122900. doi: 10.1016/j.envpol.2023.122900. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTebuconazole (TBZ) and azoxystrobin (AZX) are fungicides frequently used in rice cultivation. Despite protecting crops against fungal diseases, these compounds can contaminate the natural environments close to the crops, exerting negative effects on non-target organisms, the present study aimed to characterize the contamination by fungicides of a river that flows in an area dominated by rice cultivation in the north of the state of Santa Catarina, SC, Brazil. Concentrations of TBZ and AZX found in the field were used to eva...

Inhibiting G6PD by quercetin promotes degradation of EGFR T790M mutation
In this study, we show that quercetin directly binds with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) and inhibits its enzymatic activity through competitively abrogating NADP+ binding in the catalytic domain. This inhibition subsequently reduces intracellular NADPH levels, resulting in insufficient substrate for methionine reductase A (MsrA) to reduce M790 oxidization of EGFRT790M and inducing the degradation of EGFRT790M. Quercetin synergistically enhances the therapeutic effect of gefitinib on EGFRT790M-harboring NSCLCs and delays the acquisition of the EGFRT790M mutation. Notably, high levels of G6PD expression are correl...

Clonal hematopoiesis and acquired genetic abnormalities of the red cell: An historical review
Blood Cells Mol Dis. 2023 Nov 5;104:102801. doi: 10.1016/j.bcmd.2023.102801. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSeveral syndromes affecting the red cell that mimic those induced by germline mutations may result from a somatic mutation that accompanies a myeloid malignancy. These syndromes are most notable in cases of myelodysplastic syndrome, but they are not limited to any one category of myeloid neoplasm. Their occurrence in males exceed the male predominance that is evident in myeloid neoplasms. The syndromes include disorders of globin chain synthesis (α- and β-thalassemia), heme synthesis (erythropoietic porphyria and er...
