High diagnostic accuracy of T2FLAIR at 3 T in the detection of optic nerve head edema in acute optic neuritis
ConclusionOptic nerve head high T2FLAIR signal intensity corresponds indeed to the optic nerve head edema diagnosed by the ophthalmologists. MRI is a sensitive tool for detecting ONHE in patients presenting acute ON.Clinical relevance statementIn patients with optic neuritis the high T2FLAIR (fluid-attenuated inversion recovery) signal intensity of the optic nerve head corresponds indeed to optic nerve head edema, which is a useful feature in optic neuritis etiological evaluation and treatment.Key PointsOptic nerve head edema is a prominent clinical feature of acute optic neuritis and is usually diagnosed during dilated or...

Aicardi syndrome in a Nigerian female child: A case report and literature review of a rare neuro-developmental disorder from North-Western Nigeria
We report a case of a female infant with the classical triad of Aicardi syndrome. A female infant presented to the Paediatric Neurology Clinic of the Federal Medical Centre Birnin-Kebbi, North-western Nigeria, at the age of two months with complaints of recurrent afebrile convulsions typical for infantile spasms. The patient was delivered at term with normal Apgar scores and anthropometry. Examination revealed an infant with no dysmorphic features and normal systemic examination. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) of the brain however, showed complete agenesis of the corpus callosum and dilatation of the posterior horn of th...

Visual System Involvement in Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein Astrocytopathy: Two Case Reports and a Systematic Literature Review
We describe 2 cases of GFAP astrocytopathy with predominant visual symptoms and present a systematic review of the literature. Methods We describe 2 patients with GFAP astrocytopathy from our neurology department. We performed a systematic review of the literature according to PRISMA guidelines, including all patients with this disease and available clinical data, focusing on visual involvement. Results Patient 1 presented with bilateral optic disc edema and severe sudden bilateral loss of vision poorly responsive to therapy. Patient 2 showed bilateral optic disc edema, headache, and mild visual loss with complete recove...

The Present and Future of Artificial Intelligence-Based Medical Image in Diabetes Mellitus: Focus on Analytical Methods and Limitations of Clinical Use
J Korean Med Sci. 2023 Aug 7;38(31):e253. doi: 10.3346/jkms.2023.38.e253.ABSTRACTArtificial intelligence (AI)-based diagnostic technology using medical images can be used to increase examination accessibility and support clinical decision-making for screening and diagnosis. To determine a machine learning algorithm for diabetes complications, a literature review of studies using medical image-based AI technology was conducted using the National Library of Medicine PubMed, and the Excerpta Medica databases. Lists of studies using diabetes diagnostic images and AI as keywords were combined. In total, 227 appropriate studies ...
