A literature review of hypertensive retinopathy: systemic correlations and new technologies
CONCLUSIONS: The eye is the only organ in the human body where changes in the blood vessels due to systemic hypertension can be studied in vivo. All doctors should be familiar with this disease because it has been largely demonstrated that signs of HR are correlated to patient's health and mortality. Researchers should develop a new common, standardized, and objective method to assess hypertensive retinal changes; new technologies may have a significant role in this field. This review takes most of the literature published so far, including the OCTA studies in order to stimulate new points of reference to standardize param...

Choroidal sarcoid granuloma: a case report and review of the literature
ConclusionPrimary testing including fundoscopy, fluorescein angiography, fundus autofluorescence, A/B-scan, and OCT are useful for diagnosis, differentiation from other choroidal lesions, and monitoring treatment response. Steroids are a mainstay of treatment for sarcoidosis and are effective at treating choroidal granulomas. Therefore, early recognition and diagnosis of choroidal granulomas is imperative as treatment can be curative and sight-sparing. (Source: Journal of Ophthalmic Inflammation and Infection)

Choroid, a unique site for metastasis in Marjolin's ulcer
J Cancer Res Ther. 2022 Jul-Sep;18(4):1174-1176. doi: 10.4103/jcrt.JCRT_617_19.ABSTRACTMarjolin is an aggressive malignancy, which shows initial local aggression, followed by the rapid regional and distant dissemination during the latter part of its growth. Metastasis to the uveal tract, although infrequent, is usually secondary to the malignancies of the breast and lung. Marjolin's ulcer metastasizing to choroid is quite rare and unheard of. We intend to report one such case here. Here, we present a case report of a 55-year-old male, who developed Marjolin's ulcer over a previously injured left lower limb. He developed re...

Follow-up of intraocular retinoblastoma through the quantitative analysis of conserved nuclear DNA sequences in aqueous humor from patients
J Pathol Clin Res. 2022 Sep 23. doi: 10.1002/cjp2.296. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFundoscopy is the standard method for diagnosis and follow-up of intraocular retinoblastoma, but it is sometimes insufficient to discern whether tumors are inactivated following treatments. In this work, we hypothesized that the amount of conserved nuclear DNA sequences in the cell-free DNA (cfDNA) fraction of the aqueous humor (AH) might complement fundoscopy for retinoblastoma follow-up. To address our hypothesis, we developed highly sensitive droplet digital polymerase chain reaction (ddPCR) methods to quantify highly conserved DNA sequ...
