Evaluation of Postoperative Pain After Cardiothoracic Surgery in Patients With and Without Significant Preoperative Anxiety: A Prospective Observational Study
CONCLUSIONS: This clinical trial demonstrated that greater than 60% of the participants presented with preoperative anxiety, the majority being young participants. Lower socioeconomic status is also a risk factor for preoperative anxiety. Patients who suffered from preoperative anxiety are more likely to have greater pain scores and analgesic needs during postsurgical assessment.PMID:38607875 | DOI:10.4103/aca.aca_175_23 (Source: Annals of Cardiac Anaesthesia)

Effect of an intravenous acetaminophen/ibuprofen fixed-dose combination on postoperative opioid consumption and pain after video-assisted thoracic surgery: a double-blind randomized controlled trial
ConclusionPerioperative administration of acetaminophen/ibuprofen significantly decreased analgesic needs in patients undergoing VATS, providing an effective postoperative pain management strategy, and potentially minimizing the need for stronger analgesics. (Source: Surgical Endoscopy)

Comparison of sequential and mixture injections of opioids and hyperbaric bupivacaine for subarachnoid block for lower segment caesarean section: a randomised controlled study
ConclusionSequential injection of intrathecal opioids and hyperbaric bupivacaine resulted in greater early haemodynamic instability and slightly better postoperative analgesia without any difference in block height or patient satisfaction.Clinical trial registrationNCT04403724. Evaluation of a hapten conjugate vaccine against the "zombie drug" xylazine
Chem Commun (Camb). 2024 Apr 10. doi: 10.1039/d4cc00883a. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTXylazine has emerged as a primary adulterant in fentanyl, exacerbating the complexity of the opioid crisis. Yet, there is no approved drug that can reverse xylazine's pathophysiology. As a prelude to monoclonal antibodies being assessed as a viable therapeutic, a vaccine inquiry was conducted evaluating the immune response in reversing xylazine induced behavior effects.PMID:38596865 | DOI:10.1039/d4cc00883a (Source: Chemical Communications)

Withdrawal during outpatient low dose buprenorphine initiation in people who use fentanyl: a retrospective cohort study
Buprenorphine is an effective treatment for opioid use disorder (OUD); however, buprenorphine initiation can be complicated by withdrawal symptoms including precipitated withdrawal. There has been increasing i... (Source: Harm Reduction Journal)

The fentanyl-specific antibody FenAb024 can shield against carfentanil effects
Toxicol Lett. 2024 Apr 6:S0378-4274(24)00055-9. doi: 10.1016/j.toxlet.2024.03.008. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe surge in opioid-related deaths, driven predominantly by fentanyl and its synthetic derivatives, has become a critical public health concern, which is particularly evident in the United States. While the situation is less severe in Europe, the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction reports a rise in drug overdose deaths, with emerging concerns about the impact of fentanyl-related molecules. Synthetic opioids, initially designed for medical use, have infiltrated illicit markets due to their lo...
