Experience of diagnosis and treatment of 31 H-type tracheoesophageal fistula in a single clinical center
ConclusionH-type TEF is diagnosed by iodine oil examination of the esophagus, fiberoptic bronchoscopy combined with esophagoscopy, and 3-D CT reconstruction of the trachea and esophagus. Excision and suturing of the TEF separately are an effective treatment for the disease and are an excellent outcome. (Source: Pediatric Surgery International)

Tu1990 UNSEDATED IN-OFFICE TRANSNASAL ENDOSCOPY IS SAFE AND EFFECTIVE IN MONITORING DISEASE ACTIVITY IN PEDIATRIC EOSINOPHILIC ESOPHAGITIS AND NON-EOSINOPHILIC ESOPHAGEAL DISEASE
Methods to monitor esophageal disease in children include sedated endoscopic visualization and assessment of mucosal biopsies. Although effective, esophagoduodenoscopy (EGD) is time consuming, expensive, and carries short-term and potential long-term risks with general anesthesia. Recently, we reported the use of unsedated transnasal esophagoscopy (TNE) in a small cohort to survey the mucosa of children with EoE. The aim of this study was to evaluate the completion rate, adverse events, and quality/adequacy of pathology specimens obtained during TNE in children with esophageal pathology. IgG4 related disease spectrum and 18F-FDG PET/CT: Where does it fit in the management algorithm?
Conclusions:18F-FDG PET/CT has a valuable role in the holistic management of patients with IgG4 related disease, from the initial aid in diagnosis to the response evaluation. Since the serum IgG4 levels are not infallible in the diagnosis of this entity, it is imperative that one considers the use of 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging in guiding the diagnosis with respect to disease pattern and biopsy site identification as well as monitoring response to treatment. A Hem-o-Lok-Induced Tracheoesophageal Fistula Cured By Temporary Airway Stenting Modified With Three-Dimensional Printing
We present the case of a fistula between the trachea and the esophagogastric anastomosis in a 58-year-old male after esophagectomy. A Hem-o-Lok clip used at the time to ligate the azygos vein was discovered by esophagoscopy and bronchoscopy to be eroding into the both structures. A covered self-expandable Y-shaped metallic tracheobronchial stent was customized with a 3D printed airway model and inserted in place, with endoscopic injection of fibrin glue to the anastomotic site. 64 days after implantation, the stent was withdrawn with complete healing of the fistula. A gastroenterologist ’s perspective on the role of barium esophagography in gastroesophageal reflux disease
AbstractAlthough endoscopy is a sophisticated technique for evaluating patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), the single diagnostic test that enables the most comprehensive assessment for GERD is a well-performed video esophagram. Not only does the barium study permit assessment of morphologic abnormalities in the pharynx and esophagus, but also oropharyngeal swallowing function, esophageal motility, and gastroesophageal reflux. These factors are especially important for detection of anatomic findings such as strictures and hernias, for assessment of esophageal motility before and after fundoplication, and f...

Office ‐based esophageal dilation in head and neck cancer: Safety, feasibility, and cost analysis
ConclusionIn patients with history of HNCA and radiation, office‐based TNE with esophageal dilation appears safe, well‐tolerated, and cost‐effective. In a small cohort, the technique has low complication rate and is feasible in an otolaryngology outpatient office setting. Level of Evidence4. Laryngoscope, 2018 (Source: The Laryngoscope)

Unsedated In-office Transgastrostomy Esophagoscopy to Monitor Therapy in Pediatric Esophageal Disease
Monitoring therapy in esophageal inflammatory disorders such as eosinophilic esophagitis and reflux esophagitis often requires frequent endoscopic evaluation. We recently reported the effective use of unsedated in-office transnasal esophagoscopy that significantly decreased costs and anesthetic exposure associated with pediatric esophagoscopy in eosinophilic esophagitis. Here we report a series of pediatric patients with esophagitis with gastrostomy tubes who underwent unsedated transgastrostomy esophagoscopy (TGE) in an office setting. Nine patients (ages 16 months–21 years) tolerated TGE without significant adverse eve...

Esophageal diverticulum serves as a unique cause of bronchoesophageal fistula in children: A case report
AbstractRationale:Most of the esophageal diverticulums are congenital traction instead of in childhood. In most conditions, esophageal diverticulums are free of any symptoms. As one of the rare entity, esophageal diverticulum can also result in bronchoesophageal fistula.Patient concerns:A 10-year-old girl was admitted due to a 2-month history of cough and choking after drinking, and fever for 3 days. No symptoms when taking solid food were found.Diagnoses:By esophagogram, 3-dimensional computed tomography and esophagoscopy, an esophageal diverticulum was demonstrated in the middle esophagus with a bronchoesophageal fistula...

Symptom relief and health-related quality of life in globus patients: a prospective study.
Abstract Globus may be a persistent symptom impairing patients' quality of life. Diagnostics and treatment are controversial but some globus patients may benefit from reassurance and attention. We investigated how globus symptoms change during a short-term follow-up without any treatment after an examination by an ear, nose and throat (ENT) physician and further diagnostic procedures. We also surveyed whether patients with persistent globus suffer from simultaneous voice problems. The study comprised 30 consecutive globus patients referred to Helsinki University Hospital, Department of Otorhinolaryngology ...
