Caroli syndrome associated with atrial septal defect and polydactyly: a case report
ConclusionThe association of liver diseases, polydactyly, and congenital heart diseases is extremely rare and was only documented few times in the literature. However, to our knowledge, atrial septal defect has never been part of this combination before. The family history also makes this case unique and strongly suggests genetic etiology. Impact of Postoperative Imaging Following Emergency Surgery for Penetrating Ballistic Thoracic Trauma
CONCLUSION: Following emergency surgery for penetrating trauma, completion of injury assessment with CT-scan can lead to identification of missed or additional injuries, while other imaging is indicated according to operative findings. In this study, 24.1% had additional surgical pathology identified by postoperative imaging while others had findings requiring additional studies or specialist consult evaluations.PMID:37165630 | DOI:10.1177/00031348231175451 (Source: The American Surgeon)

Subtotal Cervical Esophagectomy and Anastomosis in an Ostrich ( < em > Struthio camelus domesticus < /em > )
J Avian Med Surg. 2023 Mar;36(4):421-425. doi: 10.1647/21-00043.ABSTRACTAn adult, female, captive ostrich (Struthio camelus domesticus) was referred to a veterinary teaching hospital for a 2-week history of lethargy and a mass effect in the proximal cervical region. Physical examination revealed a fistula in the middle cervical esophagus surrounded by devitalized and necrotic tissue; feed material was found leaking from the site. Cervical radiography identified an esophageal stricture with anterior dilation due to the accumulation of feed. After receiving supportive care for 48 hours, the patient's overall status improved,...

Esophageal Foreign Bodies in Pediatric Age Group with Different Durations of time from Ingestion to Effective Treatment
In this study all the children with suspected foreign body esophagus underwent Xray and FB was found in 300/302 i.e its diagnostic accuracy (sensitivity) is 98%. Rigid esophagoscopy was done in all 302 pts with 100% diagnostic accuracy. Different types of foreign bodies ingested most common being coin i.e in 91% patients followed by FB battery in 17 patients and safety pin in 6 patients. Majority of foreign bodies were located in the cricopharynx (198) followed by upper esophagus (67) and mid-esophagus (25) and only 10 cases involved the lower esophagus and spontaneous passage was found in 2 cases. The most common foreign ...

Foreign Body Removal from Stomach: An Innovative Approach Using C-arm in ENT
We present a case of coin ingestion who reported to a tertiary care center. It was retained in the lower part of esophagus as confirmed by imaging. Subsequently during the rigid esophagoscopy it was found missing from distal esophagus. A 9 year old female child presented with accidental ingestion of coin. The imaging done immediately prior to intervention confirmed position of coin in distal esophagus. However, up on visualization with rigid esophagoscope the coin was not found in esophagus and suspected to have passed in to stomach. We used C-arm to confirm the location which has its own limitations. There have been vario...

Congenital esophageal stenosis in a Labrador retriever
This report describes the clinical presentation, diagnostic imaging findings, and treatment of a rare case of congenital esophageal stenosis in a Labrador retriever. Medical and conservative therapies alone may be sufficient for treatment of congenital esophageal stenosis depending on presentation and suspected histopathological type. These therapies should be considered before initiating interventional procedures.PMID:36467380 | PMC:PMC9648477 (Source: The Canadian Veterinary Journal)
