Removal of Coin Cell Lithium Battery Lodged in the Pediatric Pharyngoesophageal Junction by Rigid Esophagoscopy; a Case Report
Arch Acad Emerg Med. 2022 Jan 1;10(1):e4. doi: 10.22037/aaem.v10i1.1430. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTA coin cell lithium battery is a common foreign body that can become lodged in the pediatric pharyngoesophageal junction. Because the voltage of such batteries is relatively high, their rapid removal is necessary to avoid mucosal necrosis. Despite being the initial choice for removal, flexible endoscopy cannot remove such foreign bodies from the esophagus. Various removal methods, including rigid esophagoscopy, should be considered for removing lithium coin cell batteries. The transcervical approach is feasible for removing es...

Esophageal Interventions in Infants Born with Esophageal Atresia: A Comprehensive Analysis of a National Database
Conclusion The low incidence of EA in relation to a relatively large number of units treating those patients in Germany may pose challenges for maintaining competency and training of all specialists involved. The number of esophagoscopic treatments for esophageal stricture per anastomosis is lower than previously estimated. An experimental study on long term outcomes after magnetic esophageal compression anastomosis in piglets
CONCLUSION: MECA creates a long-term functional and patent anastomosis in pigs. This concept may facilitate minimally-invasive esophageal atresia repair by obviating a technically challenging and time-consuming hand-sewn anastomosis.PMID:34656308 | DOI:10.1016/j.jpedsurg.2021.09.032 (Source: Hand Surgery)

Migrated Foreign Body of Upper Digestive Tract —A Ten-Year Institutional Experience
AbstractThe ingested foreign body is one of the commonest emergencies encountered by otolaryngologists Depending on the shape and duration of impaction, a small number of foreign bodies (1 –2%) can perforate the wall of the gastrointestinal Tract. A migrated foreign body may remain quiescent or cause life-threatening suppurative and vascular complications. Data were collected retrospectively from the hospital records in a tertiary care hospital in South India from 2010 to 2020. Fift een patients diagnosed with migrated foreign body and who underwent neck exploration were included in the study. Demographic details, mode o...

Frequent occurrence of postbreakfast syncope due to carotid sinus syndrome after surgery for hypopharyngeal cancer: A case report
We reported a case of frequent syncopal episodes limited to the forenoon due to CSS after surgery for hypopharyngeal carcinoma. The patient was treated with anticholinergics followed by the release and re-anastomosis of the pharyngoesophageal stenosis. When syncope occurs after surgery for head and neck lesions, CSS due to postoperative structural changes should be considered as a differential diagnosis of syncope. (Source: Medicine)

Endoscopic visualization for tracheoesophageal puncture tract sizing
CONCLUSION AND SIGNIFICANCE: The percent disagreement between non-visualized and endoscopic-visualized TEP sizing is high (60%). The data suggest that endoscopic visualization with TNE improves sizing accuracy during TEP placement.PMID:33825666 | DOI:10.1080/00016489.2021.1907444 (Source: Acta Oto-Laryngologica)
