Modifying effect of urban parks on socioeconomic inequalities in diabetes prevalence: a cross-sectional population study of Madrid City, Spain
Background Evidence has shown contradicting results on how the density of urban green spaces may reduce socioeconomic inequalities in type 2 diabetes (equigenic hypothesis). The aim of this study is to test whether socioeconomic inequalities in diabetes prevalence are modified by park density. Methods We designed a population-wide cross-sectional study of all adults registered in the primary healthcare centres in the city of Madrid, Spain (n=1 305 050). We obtained georeferenced individual-level data from the Primary Care Electronic Health Records, and census-tract level data on socioeconomic status (SES) and park density...

Peripheral intravenous catheter failure, nurse staffing levels and care complexity individual factors: A retrospective multicentre cohort study
ConclusionAbout 6% of patients presented PIVC failure during hospitalisation. Several complexity factors were associated with PIVC failure and lower nurse staffing levels were identified in patients with PIVC failure. Institutions should consider that prior identification of care complexity individual factors and nurse staffing coverage could be associated with a reduced risk of PIVC failure. (Source: PLoS One)

How Social Connectedness Helps Patients Stay Home After Hospital at Home Enrollment: A Mixed Methods Study
ConclusionsStructural social connectedness facilitates patient recovery in HaH. Before enrolling patients in HaH, clinicians should take an in-depth social history, including questions about social/familial roles, household responsibilities, and technology acceptance. Clinicians should engage formal and informal caregivers in these conversations early and communicate a clear picture of what caregivers should do to support the patient through recovery. Development and implementation of local pediatric anesthesia performance metrics at a Canadian children ’s hospital: a technical report
ConclusionWe introduced and implemented customized pediatric anesthesia metrics within an academic pediatric hospital; however, this framework is easily adaptable across multiple clinical specialties and institutions. In harnessing data-collecting and reporting properties of EHR, the metrics we describe provide insights that facilitate real-time monitoring and foster a culture of continuous learning in line with strategic goals of high-reliability organizations. Digital Technology in Hospital Administration: A Strategic Choice
J Assoc Physicians India. 2023 Oct;71(10):83-88. doi: 10.59556/japi.71.0372.ABSTRACTDigital technology has encompassed all aspects of healthcare. There are many international and national organizations, guidelines, and formats available in health information systems (HIS), but many are presently still not being used in India. The aim is to give a flawless, secure, and user-friendly health information technology (IT) system for Indian healthcare. We discuss the timeline of digital technology in hospital administration, administrative applications, and the importance of clinical quality in health. Clinical perspectives of cl...

IJERPH, Vol. 21, Pages 603: Protocol for Evaluating Remote Patient Blood Pressure Monitoring Adapted to Black Women and Birthing Persons
las Evans Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of maternal death among Black women in the United States. A large, urban hospital adopted remote patient blood pressure monitoring (RBPM) to increase blood pressure monitoring and improve the management of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) by reducing the time to diagnosis of HDP. The digital platform integrates with the electronic health record (EHR), automatically inputting RBPM readings to the patients’ chart; communicating elevated blood pressure values to the healthcare team; and offers a partial offset of the cost through insurance plans....

Association of Patient-Reported Social Needs with Emergency Department Visits and Hospitalizations Among Federally Qualified Health Center Patients
ConclusionsPatient-reported social needs were common and associated with health care utilization patterns. Future research should identify interventions to address unmet social needs to improve health and avoid potentially preventable escalating medical intervention. Outcomes of a universal germline screening program in a community urology practice
In this study, we report outcomes of a universal germline screening program in a community urology practice. Between November 2021 and September 2022, all patients referred for urology clinic visits at Frederick Health (Frederick, MD, USA) were provided an online genetics screening questionnaire prior to the visit. Responses were compared against National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) criteria for germline testing. Those who met criteria were provided educational materials at the end of the questionnaire, and then counseled by a trained urologic oncologist (HC) in the clinic or referred to a genetic counselor prior t...
