Essential Tremor Diagnosis Accuracy: 1998 versus 2018 Movement Disorder Society Consensus
Background: The potential association between Essential Tremor (ET) and Parkinson's Disease (PD) warrants closer examination, mainly because their slow, progressive nature makes prospective studies less feasible. In this context, retrospective data from electronic healthcare records (EHRs) becomes a valuable resource. Before we explore the ET-PD association, it's imperative to confirm whether patients classified under the ET conform to the diagnostic criteria. The 2018 Movement Disorder Society (MDS) revisions now necessitate a minimum of three years of upper extremity bilateral action tremors and exclude isolated head tre...

Po-02-094 secondary prevention implantable cardioverter-defibrillator use in a contemporary us electronic health records-based cohort
Therapy with implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICD) for secondary prevention after cardiac arrest with shockable rhythm in the absence of a reversible cause has a Class I recommendation in US guidelines. Contemporary rates of ICD use in this population are not well described. (Source: Heart Rhythm)

Po-05-183 detection of recurrent vt in unstructured medical notes using natural language processing augmented by synthetic notes
Automatically parsing Electronic Health Records (EHR) for endpoints such as ventricular tachycardia (VT) could assist patients in interpreting their records and help with quality assurance. However, inconsistencies in clinical terminology, ambiguous notes, and infrequent positive cases challenge automated tools. We hypothesize that using generative AI (ChatGPT) with standardized medical synonyms to augment training cases for Natural Language Processing (NLP) would improve accuracy for detecting VT (fig. Implementation of Health IT for Cancer Screening in US Primary Care: Scoping Review
CONCLUSIONS: There are substantial evidence gaps regarding the effectiveness of HIT-based interventions, especially those targeting guideline-concordant breast and colorectal cancer screening in primary care. Even less is known about how to enhance the adoption of technologies that have been proven effective in supporting breast, colorectal, or cervical cancer screening. Research is needed to ensure that the potential benefits of effective HIT-based interventions equitably reach diverse primary care populations.PMID:38687595 | DOI:10.2196/49002 (Source: Cancer Control)

Mechanical ventilation in older adults with dementia: opportunities to promote goal-concordant care
CONCLUSION: Future efforts to promote goal-concordant care surrounding mechanical ventilation use for people living with dementia should involve identifying barriers to goal-concordant care in pre-hospital settings, assessing the timeliness of in-hospital GOCD, and developing strategies for in-the-moment crisis communication across settings.PMID:38685288 | DOI:10.1016/j.jpainsymman.2024.04.021 (Source: Pain Physician)

Hyperkalemia Recurrence Following Medical Nutrition Therapy in Patients with Stage  3-4 Chronic Kidney Disease: The REVOLUTIONIZE I Real-World Study
CONCLUSION: Most patients with stage 3-4 CKD had hyperkalemia recurrence, and MNT alone was inadequate to prevent recurrence. These patients may require additional long-term treatment, such as novel potassium binders, to maintain normokalemia and prevent hyperkalemia recurrence following MNT. 205. The Importance of Using Individual-Level Socioeconomic Status Measure in Psychiatric Research
While the significance of socioeconomic status (SES) in psychiatric conditions is widely acknowledged, their investigation remains limited, primarily due to a lack of readily available measures in electronic health records (EHRs). We aimed to test whether an individual-level SES measure using address information in EHRs is associated with a psychiatric outcome, after accounting for neighborhood-level SES. User Personas for a "Better Design" of Nation-Wide EHRs Based on Thorough Expert Evaluation and Field Analysis: Modeling Users as Individuals Plus Family Members for an Enhanced Mapping of Healthcare Situations
Stud Health Technol Inform. 2024 Apr 26;313:87-92. doi: 10.3233/SHTI240017.ABSTRACTElectronic Health Records (EHRs) are pivotal in prevention, therapy, and care. Their design necessitates the representation of users, activities, context, and technology. Among various participative and ethnographic design methods, user personas are an effective tool for encapsulating users in the design process. Goals and methods: This research focused on the creation of user personas for the design of a nation-wide EHR, specifically the German "elektronische Patientenakte" (ePA). We employed qualitative methods, such as field analysis and ...
