< em > Pseudomonas solani < /em > sp. nov. isolated from the rhizosphere of eggplant in Japan
Int J Syst Evol Microbiol. 2023 Jun;73(6). doi: 10.1099/ijsem.0.005942.ABSTRACTThe search for bacteria that can be used as biocontrol agents to control crop diseases yielded a promising candidate, Sm006T, which was isolated from the rhizosphere of eggplant (Solanum melongena) growing in a field in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, in 2006. The cells were Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, non-spore-forming, rod-shaped and motile with one polar flagellum. The results of homology searches and phylogenetic analyses based on the 16S rRNA gene sequence indicated that Sm006T represents a member of the genus Pseudomonas. The genomic DNA G+C co...

Genes, Vol. 14, Pages 1315: Genome-Wide Association Study of Phenolic Content and Antioxidant Properties in Eggplant Germplasm
im Lee Kim The phenolic compounds in eggplant offer potential natural antioxidants for improved health. A large number of samples were examined in order to find eggplant germplasm with a high potential for health promotion. A genome-wide association study (GWAS) was conducted to identify single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with variations in total phenolic content (TPC) and antioxidant activity in eggplants, including ABTS (2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid)) scavenging activity and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP). TPC values varied from 14.19 to 842.90 mg gallic ac...

GSE210822 Single-cell RNA sequencing identifies regulators of differentiation and nutritional cues in Drosophila female germ cells
In this study, we took advantage of single cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) to profile the germline cells and somatic cells in wild type Drosophila ovary. We then performed an in vivo RNAi screen and network analysis to identify genes that are involved in the early stages of germ cell differentiation. We identified 33 genes with limited expression during early germ cell development and identified 19 genes that potentially regulate germ cell differentiation. Among these, an uncharacterized gene, which we named eggplant (eggpl), that is highly expressed in GSC and downregulated in early daughter cells. Upon RNAi knockdown of ...

The genome sequence of a spider mite, Tetranychus truncatus, provides insights into interspecific host range variation and the genetic basis of adaptation to a low ‐quality host plant
The phytophagous miteTetranychus truncatus is a significant pest in East Asia, but its host range is relatively narrower than that ofTetranychus urticae, another pest mite. We have produced a high-quality, chromosomal-level genome ofT.  truncatus and compared it with that ofT.  urticae. Our findings indicate thatT.  truncatus has fewer genes associated with detoxification, transport, and chemoreception thanT.  urticae, with a notable reduction in gustatory receptor genes. Through population genetics analyses and comparisons of transcriptomes after a host plant shift, we have identified genes that are potentially involv...

Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 3519: Direct Solar Oven with and without UV Filter vs. Traditional Oven: Effect on Polyphenolic Antioxidants, Vitamins and Carotenoids of Food
iela Tofani The use of efficient solar ovens can be a way for progressing ecofriendly technologies in the field of food preparation. In most performing direct solar ovens, the sun rays reach the foods directly, therefore, it becomes essential to check whether, in these conditions, foods can retain theirnutraceutical properties (antioxidants, vitamins and carotenoids). In the present research work, to investigate this issue, several foods (vegetables, meats, and a fish sample) were analyzed before and after cooking (traditional oven, solar oven, and solar oven with a UV filter). The content of lipophilic vitamins and ca...

Back to the Roots: < em > Agrobacterium < /em > -Specific Phages Show Potential to Disinfect Nutrient Solution from Hydroponic Greenhouses
Appl Environ Microbiol. 2023 Apr 3:e0021523. doi: 10.1128/aem.00215-23. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAgrobacterium biovar 1 is a soilborne plant pathogen with the ability to colonize the irrigation system of greenhouses, causing hairy root disease (HRD). Currently, management focuses on using hydrogen peroxide to disinfect the nutrient solution, but due to the emergence of resistant strains, its efficacy and sustainability are questioned. Using a relevant collection of pathogenic Agrobacterium biovar 1 strains, OLIVR1 to 6, six phages specific to this pathogen and belonging to three different genera were isolated from Agr...
