mental health-bad drug reaction
Hi all My son has DD508 and depression. We have just discovered that his moods went very low when he was on a certain antibiotic called Akamin (mincycline) and as soon as he came off it things started to improve. He stopped crying for no reason, being angry and argumentative all the time and wanting to end his life. It wasnt the cure for his depression and he is on antidepressants but it made a huge difference. His doctors had not come across such a reaction before, anyone heard of this happening? Mumof1 (Source: Cystic Fibrosis Teenagers and Young People Forum)

Funding worries!
Hi I've had a quick look through old posts so hopefully I'm not asking repeat questions! I'm currently studying to be a nurse, I already have a masters degree in music but I've had a change of heart! I've found I really excel at the anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, microbiology and pathology modules I've done and have decided I want to further my learning and study medicine once I qualify. My aim is to work bank shifts as a nurse to fund my way through medical school. I won't have the support of a partner or family financially. I'm wondering if anyone has any idea if this is doable? Will I still get the same funding a...

VivienLauYW, Maria Wong - Mutation and Expression Analysis of PTEN in Non-small Cell
VivienLauYW – The University of Hong Kong Medical Sciences Pathology Pharmacology MMedSc Mutation and Expression Analysis of PTEN in Non-small Cell Lung Cancer From Non-smokers Abstract This MMedSc dissertation studied the genetic variations and epigenetic variations of PTEN (phosphatase and tensin homolog deleted on chromosome 10) in relation to Adenocarcinoma (AD) in particular the protein expression level of PTEN in non-smoking non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patient. PTEN gene is a tumor suppressor gene (TSG) residing at the locus10q23.3. A decrease in PTEN protein level induces the accumulation of lipid phosphoino...

Help with Prescription for Kalydeco off-label
Discussion on non-clinical aspects Ivacaftor increased in vitro the chloride transport of multiple mutant CFTR forms associated with a variety of protein defects and disease severity. The increase of chloride transport by ivacaftor was most pronounced in cells expressing CFTR gating mutations when compared to other types of CFTR mutations. This group included, G551D, G178R, S549N, S549R, G551S, G970R, G1244E, S1251N, S1255P and G1349D. The fold increase in chloride transport for all 10 studied gating mutation proteins was greater than 10. Ivacaftor also potentiated chloride transport, of cells carrying CFTR mutations that ...
