Please Take A Moment To Read
Hi everyone, I have a big request for all of you! If you could please take a couple minutes to read this thread I would greatly appreciate it. I am currently a senior in high school and in order to graduate I have to create a senior project that relates to something powerful in my life. I think most of us can agree on that fact that CF is one of the most impacting/ powerful things in our lives. I want to create a book filled with writings from you guys. I want us to be able to share our story, our CF journey. I'm reaching out to all of you, asking you to do one thing for me. Please write to me. I want to know how CF has i...

I need some help with a uni artwork!
Hi everyone, My name is Charlotte and I'm from Melbourne. I'm trying to reach a broad CF audience and I thought this might be a good spot! I have CF and I'm currently in my final semester of my Fine Art degree, working with the idea of the many forms of isolation experienced in CF. If anyone is willing to, contributions from CF sufferers would be very valued!! I'm collecting hand written responses (if you have a young child maybe they'd like to do a drawing?) so, an image of your hand written response of how you personally interpret isolation in CF in however long, short, literal or abstract as you like! They can be sen...

I want to make friends with people who understand me.
Hi there I'm Isabel and I'm 16 going on 17 in 2 months. I was just diagnosed with CF last year about 7 months after I began becoming sick. It's been a crazy year since it all started and I never new my life would change so much. I can't play my favorite sport anymore, my life plan has become difficult because of school, and even though I was just diagnosed I am in a severe state. Last year my lung function Dropped to 20% and 5 months later went back to 100. Now which is 8 months later I am at 50%. I stopped doing my treatments and taking my medication, I don't know I just don't want to do them anymore, I gave up on them. I...

What I wish my teachers/ school counselor knew about CF
Hello to everyone! I am a school counselor in NC and am learning about CF in a course I am taking. As I have read through many of your posts, it seems that there are many things that your school system is lacking to implement, that would benefit you in your school setting. I know that there are IEP's, 504 plans, and health plans that can be beneficial in assisting you while at school, but I'm curious as to what we can do to help make the transition at school easier for you. Basically, what are some things that would could do from a school perspective, to better serve you? I'm interested in learning how to assist future stu...

Missing School
To whoever may be reading this- I'm struggling with school. I have an endless amount of absences and my grades aren't nearly as good as they have been. I was hospitalized for the first time in February of this year. I missed about three weeks of school and ever since I haven't had the time to fully catch up on everything. After returning from the hospital, I went to see my school counselor to set me up with online school and eliminated some of the classes I was taking. Doing so only helped me only for a short time. I currently take three classes at my high school and three classes online. I just recently cultured out MAC a...

mental health-bad drug reaction
Hi all My son has DD508 and depression. We have just discovered that his moods went very low when he was on a certain antibiotic called Akamin (mincycline) and as soon as he came off it things started to improve. He stopped crying for no reason, being angry and argumentative all the time and wanting to end his life. It wasnt the cure for his depression and he is on antidepressants but it made a huge difference. His doctors had not come across such a reaction before, anyone heard of this happening? Mumof1 (Source: Cystic Fibrosis Teenagers and Young People Forum)

Stomach distension
Hi everybody. This is my first post and I just have a quick question. No matter what I do (I always take my enzymes and everything and exercise a ton) my stomach sticks out (like I look pregnant). It's awful looking and I hate it and I was wondering if anyone knew the cause of this or any tricks to help it (I don't even know if it's a CF problem). Thanks in advance! Throat cultures
I was wondering when your primary care doctor (Not your CF doctor) cultures your throat, let's say for Strep, do they ONLY look for the strep bacteria? Or if you had something else growing would it usually pop up on the culture? I was wondering if it was possible to miss other bacteria, if they only look for one specific type. Thank you. My Facebook rant to all those people who annoy me about Cystic Fibrosis
To those of you who don't know what Cystic Fibrosis is, here's the definition from the CDC: "Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a chronic, progressive, and frequently fatal genetic (inherited) disease of the body’s mucus glands. CF primarily affects the respiratory and digestive systems in children and young adults. The sweat glands and the reproductive system are also usually involved. On the average, individuals with CF have a lifespan of approximately 30 years. CF-like disease has been known for over two centuries. The name CF of the pancreas, was first applied to the disease in 1938." Hugest pet peeve is when people a...

Going to the doctor for a sweat test rcmndtn.
Im going to the doctor this week to try and get a recommendation for a cf sweat test. Im worried they may think Im crazy, but I'm so frustrated that I dont know what else to do. Since a child I have been getting sinus infections and bronchitis frequently. My doctor diagnosed me with asthma and put me on antibiotics and that worked for a while. I'm now 22 years old (female) and have started going downhill since 16. I know cystic fibrosis is usually diagnosed as a child but i was not tested at birth and I have read that some milder mutations do not.become severe until later in life. Anyway at 16 I started having severe pain ...

CF patient needs

I am writing my thesis with them so it is my task to find out more about the disease and about the patients' needs, to be able to have as many insights as possible in the development process. They want to especially target problems with drug resistance. Smoking Marijuana to breathe easier
So about a month ago I got my official notice from the state saying I'm a legal Medical Marijuana User registered in the MM Registry. There are many times that I smoke Marijuana just so I can breathe easier, I notice that it is exactly like my Inhaler. I know what you're thinking about the smoking part, well when I have the money, i plan on either making Edibles or getting a Vaporizer in place of smoking. But for now, the safest thing that I currently do is I smoke out of a water pipe, and instead of the Marijuana holder (bowl), I use a triple filtered pipe (I put 3, tiny metal mesh filters in the pipe). So the place the b...

Medical Marijuana
Hello. I have Cystic Fibrosis, and I was curious to know what your opinions were on CFers who use Medical Marijuana as a medicine to aide in Cystic Fibrosis. I want to know the benefits, the downsides, opinions, and facts about Medical Marijuana and Cystic Fibrosis. If you're a parent of someone who has CF, would you allow your child to consume Medical Marijuana? If you're a person with CF, would you use Medical Marijuana? When and how do you tell your child about surgery?
You know, I always struggle with this. We have an upcoming outpatient sinus surgery. At least it's hopefully outpatient. My little guy hates PICC lines and IVs to the point of hysteria at times, but hopefully there won't be much of that this time since its outpatient. I don't want him walking through his school day and playtimes fearful. But I don't want to scare the bejesus out of him by saying "Good Morning, we're going to the hospital for surgery today" either! I swear I'm not normal. I feel like I'm an "old soul", literally. I have traditional values, I find women back in the 30s-50s era the most beautiful, and I hate how women dress s.ty and have piercings. I even hate ear piercings. The thing that makes me most abnormal, is I don't really think about sex, and I really only want a girlfriend so I can have a companion, not for sex or anything like that. Masturbation
I have a few questions about this very uncomfortable subject. 1. Is it wrong or bad to do? I was reading a Christian magazine and it said it isn't wrong (I'll link it here http://www.focusonthefamily.com/pare...r-puberty.aspx) "Your approach to this issue will need to be both tactful and realistic. A bottom line worth stressing is that masturbation should not play a major role in your child's life, either as a source of relentless guilt or as a frequent and persistent habit that displaces healthy sexual relations in the future. If it happens once in a while, it happens." 2. I get no real pleasure from doing th...

Is having CF a good enough reason to get a Medical Marijuana Card?
So because I have CF, is that a good enough reason for a doctor to get me a MM Card? Ive done a lot of study about this subject. And I believe an MM Card will benefit me greatly because I have CF. It will help me eat more, as well as help with other issues. I am at a good weight. But I can't eat nearly enough calories the CF doctors say I should be eating. They say I should be eating 4,000 calories a day if I'm working out, and 3,000 calories a day if I'm sedentary. I can't at all eat nearly that much! How bad is smoking pot?
I'm just curious, how bad is smoking pot (out of a bubbler/bong) for your lungs if you only smoke 2-4x a week? I also have a question about drug testing, if you're applying for a job and they require a drug test and you fail it, do they call the police or are you just denied of the job? What about drug tests at a phlegm checkup or blood tests at a hospital, if you fail is it just between you and your dr or do they call the police? I figure it's a whole lot healthier in comparison to ecigs and it's twice as healthy than cigs. I kinda think of it as breathing in camp fire smoke in a way, but maybe even healthier? (Source: C...

So I saw a post that said someone was surprised they gained 15 lb. in like 5 years or something and weighing the most they have in their life (which was a moderately low weight). Spreading Awareness and Hope
Hi, I just joined this forum the other day, and I think this is great. I recently made image attached here while I was bored in the hospital, and I thought I would share it here. It's made to fit the size of the Facebook cover photo, so please feel free to use and share it to help spread awareness and hope. And feel free to find and add me on Facebook! Thanks!
