Superior Pharmacology Study Methods (Drugs)
Pharmacology, the fundamental aspect of pharmacology are drugs. Each individual drug can be categorized by name (generic and brand name), class, indications, dosage range, notable side effects and metabolism. I have taken a pharmacology class and I did rather well, but I'd like to know as much as I can about drugs, if not everything. What is or are the most effective study methods in order to remember nearly all pharmaceuticals while being able to explain them in detail? Is there a... Difference between PA degree and RxP postdoctoral masters?
When I looked at the difference between the RxP postdoctoral masters in psychopharmacology to train prescribing psychologists and a PA degree, they looked almost exactly the same and were about the same length, except that the psychopharmacology appeared to have more neuroscience type classes... They both taught the sciences (biochemistry, anatomy, etc), general medicine, diagnostics, differential diagnosis, ordering and interpreting lab, pharmacology, etc. But as far as didactics or... Difference between inhibitor vs. antagonist vs. blocker
Hi all, I have a general pharmacology nomenclature question. Is there a difference between a receptor/enzyme inhibitor vs. antagonist vs. blocker? Are these 3 terms interchangeable? For example: Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are not commonly referred to as proton pump blockers. Angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) are not commonly referred to as angiotensin receptor inhibitors. Histamine-2 receptor antagonists (H2RAs) are not commonly referred to as histamine-2... Difference between inhibitor vs. antagonist vs. blocker (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Nurse practitioners independent prescribing?
I don't mean any offense to the nurse practitioners out there as there are some great ones, but have you looked at their curriculum? It's pales definitely in comparison to medical school, but also PA school. Their classes are all theory and they only have like two assessment classes and one pharmacology class. Yet they are getting the same rights to independently practice just like physicians without any supervision and essentially practice as a physician with a fraction of the training.... University of Tennessee-Memphis MS Pharmacology
I wanted to know if anyone has been admitted or attended the University of Tennessee-Memphis MS in Pharmacology (http://www.utmem.edu/grad/Programs/index.php?page=PharmacologyMS). I spoke with Edward Parks, the program director, about a year ago and they were in the first year of the program. He stated that the program is designed to provide a similar experience to that at Tulane University; however, its about 10K less. He also stated that it was his hope that the program would... Picmonic vs. SketchyPharm for Pharmacology - which is better?
For Microbiology's bacteria/viruses M1 year I used SketchyMicro and don't have one bad word to say about it. I owe my grade entirely to it. For Pharmacology however I've heard that SketchyPharm isn't as good as SketchyMicro and the videos are too long/stories aren't quite as good. Is this true from your experience and most importantly, if you had to pick one, which would you recommend I use - SketchyPharm or Picmonic? Thanks (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Gen Surg vs. Family Med/Primary Care
I know the two are very different... Anyone else deciding (or decided) between these two? Would appreciate input. Please don't bother talking about $$ Surgery [+] : the hands on; the procedure is the main medicine (I would much rather learn procedures over pharmacology); I like the varied environment (OR, wards, clinic); level of gratification; constantly working with other physicians; Surgery [-] : It seems as if you must sell your soul to surgery/career, at least...
