Applied dentistry, rejected and referred to podiatry (interview this Friday)
Hey everybody. So I applied to dental schools this cycle and things are not going so great (3 rejections, 2 waitlist before interview). I was rejected from MWZ and referred to applied to other health programs (podiatry, pharmacy, biomed masters..etc). I transferred my application to podiatry as I was interested in it seeing as I come from a family of diabetics with nasty feet. I did some research and feel like it would be a great career if I don't get into dental school this year. I did not... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How to balance finances and interests when choosing specialty?
Hi all. I'm having an existential crisis right now, and my future choice of specialty has been on my mind. For context, I'm currently an MD-PhD student. I do a lot of clinical/scientific work on diabetes. So for the longest time, I truly wanted to go into endocrinology because it was the natural decision if I wanted to study/work with diabetes. Lately, a lot of family developments have made me reconsider if endocrinology is financially feasible, especially as a physician-scientist. I don't... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Offloading diabetic foot ulcers
We tell people to offload every day. Compliance is super low. Despite strong counseling "if you dont stop walking on this you will get an amputation" I really cant get much for compliance with my DFU patient population. Anyone doing something different? Felt, boots, crutches, wheel chair, education on why ambulating is bad, etc is just not cutting it. "No Dr Im not walking on it" As I proceed to shave off 1" thick callus from around the wound. I tried the football dressing out of... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Future of medicine... Virtual??? What do we think/know?
When I keep seeing Walmart and Amazon hiring NP/PA providers to care for patients, it makes me wonder where the future of medicine is going. All virtual, no physicians, quick, and disingenuous. I work with doctors and other providers and just about every single one of them HATE virtual visits. People are going to do a virtual visit for ear infections, strep throat, COVID, flu... all without anyway to test for it right there. Or have BP issues, diabetics, ADHD and other mental health issues... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
