Molecules, Vol. 29, Pages 1820: Novel and Sensitive Touchdown Polymerase Chain Reaction Assays for the Detection of Goat and Sheep Milk Adulteration with Cow Milk
In this study, a specific qualitative touchdown (TD) PCR method was developed to detect the undeclared addition of cow’s milk in goat and sheep milk based on the discrimination of the peak areas of the melting curves after the modification of bovine-specific primers. The developed methodology has high specificity for the DNA templates of other species, such as buffalos and donkeys, and is able to identify the presence of cow’s milk down to 1%. Repeatability was tested at low bovine concentrations of 5% and 1% and resulted in %RSD values of 1.53–2.04 for the goat–cow a...

Perinatal mortality in German dairy cattle: Unveiling the importance of cow-level risk factors and their interactions using a multifaceted modelling approach
This article aims to investigate the factors contributin g to PM in two underexplored breeds, Simmental (SIM) and Brown Swiss (BS), while comparing them to German Holstein on German farms, and to employ various modelling techniques to enhance comparability to other studies, and to determine if different statistical methods yield consistent results. A tota l of 133,942 calving records from 131,657 cows on 721 German farms were analyzed. Amongst these, the proportion of PM (defined as stillbirth or death up to 48 hours of age) was 6.1%. Univariable and multivariable mixed-effects logistic regressions, random forest and multi...

Probiotic icecream as a functional food - a review
S. Sarkar Nutrition & Food Science, Vol. ahead-of-print, No. ahead-of-print, pp.- Globally, consumer’s inclination towards functional foods had noticed due to their greater health consciousness coupled with enhanced health-care cost. The fact that probiotics could promote a healthier gut microbiome led projection of probiotic foods as functional foods and had emerged as an important dietary strategy for improved human health. It had established that ice cream was a better carrier for probiotics than fermented milked due to greater stability of probiotics in ice cream matrix. Global demand for ice cream boomed and pr...

MiR-2284b regulation of α-s1 casein synthesis in mammary epithelial cells of dairy goats
Anim Biotechnol. 2024 Nov;35(1):2334725. doi: 10.1080/10495398.2024.2334725. Epub 2024 Apr 16.ABSTRACTThe lactation character of dairy goats is the most important characteristic, and milk protein is an important index to evaluate milk quality. Casein accounts for more than 80% of the total milk protein in goat milk and is the main component of milk protein. Using GMECs (goat mammary epithelial cells) as the research object, the CHECK2 vector of the CSN1S1 gene and the overexpression vector of pcDNA 3.1 were constructed, and the mimics of miR-2284b and the interfering RNA of CSN1S1 were synthesized. Using PCR, RT-qPCR, a du...

Isolation and characterization of novel Staphylococcus aureus bacteriophage Hesat from dairy origin
Appl Microbiol Biotechnol. 2024 Apr 15;108(1):299. doi: 10.1007/s00253-024-13129-y.ABSTRACTA novel temperate phage, named Hesat, was isolated by the incubation of a dairy strain of Staphylococcus aureus belonging to spa-type t127 with either bovine or ovine milk. Hesat represents a new species of temperate phage within the Phietavirus genus of the Azeredovirinae subfamily. Its genome has a length of 43,129 bp and a GC content of 35.11% and contains 75 predicted ORFs, some of which linked to virulence. This includes (i) a pathogenicity island (SaPln2), homologous to the type II toxin-antitoxin system PemK/MazF family toxin;...

Genomic insights into key genes and QTLs involved in cattle reproduction
Gene. 2024 Apr 13:148465. doi: 10.1016/j.gene.2024.148465. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn an economic context, reproductive characteristics are fundamental for sustainable production, particularly for monotocous livestock like cattle. An inter-calving interval is indicative of low reproductive capacity. This issue changes the dynamics of current and future lactations since it necessitates more inseminations, veterinary care, and hormone interventions. Various reproductive phenotypes, including ovulation, mating, fertility, pregnancy, embryonic growth, and calving-related traits, are observed in dairy cattle and these tra...
