We are paying too much in fees...
The AAMC needs reform. To summarize... Medical school debts is rising 2X inflation. The average medical school tuition is now $243k for public schools and $322k for private schools. The average medical school debt is $170,000 per student. In 2017, the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) made $216 million. Of that, $162.9 million came directly from students. MCAT = $38.9 million, AMCAS (premed application system) = $34.4 million... We are paying too much in fees... (Source: Student Doctor Network)

American board certified working in Canada? requirements?
Hi everyone. I have a good friends who is a Canadian citizen. He did his residency in the US. He tells me that in Canada, anesthesiology residency is 5 years so to have equivalent training you would need to do a fellowship to be licensed and work in Canada as an anesthesiologist. It seems like other royal colleges; however, the American board certification is acceptable and there is reciprocity (Australia, etc). Anyone have any experience with this? Just wondering for a long term... American board certified working in Canada? requirements? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Pursuing MD vs NP school with goals of a family?
Hello, this is my first post, but I've been stalking these forums for a long time without making an account. I really appreciate whatever perspective and advice I get from this. I really feel at a crossroads and have been unable to make a decision even after speaking with some local doctors and nurse practitioners. For some background, I graduated high school at the top of my class and received a scholarship worth about 275k to one of the top colleges in the US. I'm now in my last term and... Only one semester of Intro BIO offered at my CC
Hello SDN, My community college offers only one semester of Intro BIO w/lab. The course covers all topics found in the two-semester sequence offered at other colleges. Should I take the second semester of general BIO (e.g. BIO 2) at another community college or an upper division BIO class like Cell and Molecular Biology to satisfy the premed requirement of two BIOs w/lab? Organic Chemistry I Course Needed
Hey! I'm seeking to take organic chem I this fall semester, most likely under the "2nd 8-week" division of courses that colleges/universities have (but it can be any course this fall semester that will have either started soon or has started just recently). My schedule for the winter interim session is already quite full along with the spring semester, which is why I'm seeking a course to complete this fall semester. I did not plan to do organic chem earlier as a full-semester course due to... Organic Chemistry I Course Needed (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Efle's Most Premedical Universities, 2019-2020 Edition
Hey all, College acceptance season is nigh. Type A high schoolers with an interest in biomed will soon, if they haven't already, begin flocking to SDN to begin planning the rest of their life. One question they may be asking themselves as they decide between similar universities or librul arts colleges may be, "is one of these options stronger in pre-med?" Back in 2014, and... Financial impact of COVID on DO programs
Recently I’ve been reading some articles about the financial impact that COVID has had on colleges and universities. Many universities have had to cut spending and lay off faculty and staff due to decreased retention rates, decreased tuition revenue, etc. I know that several osteopathic programs are affiliated with smaller private universities located in rural areas, and it is predicted that some smaller colleges and universities might be required to close or merge in the future due to... Going from a Nurse to a Doctor
Hi! I am currently a high school senior applying to majors and colleges. I am really torn between Nursing or becoming a physician. As of now, I now I know that I will eventually be able to handle the rigor of medical school, but I am afraid of "burnout", the overall costs of medical school, and some of the personal goals I would have to sacrifice. If I were to pursue nursing and decide (after a few years of work experience) that I still want to become a physician, what would I need to do so? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
