December 11, 2019 For the first time ever, women are now the majority of U.S. medical school students, according to 2019 data released Tuesday by the Association of American Medical Colleges. This new milestone follows another one reached in 2017, when women comprised the majority of first-year medical students. How to Zone Out of SDN? Why MD v. DO?
I am an immigrant turned US citizen. My father is a neurologist. He attained a D.O. degree from the NYITCOM émigré program. I watched him as he went through medical school. I was inspired to be a D.O. I was always academically bright. Let alone saying I scored in the 98th percentile of the SATs and a 4.5/4.0 high school GPA. In my senior year, I got into 14/17 colleges that I applied to. I had to decide between going premed at Berkeley, BS/DO, or BS/MD at SLU Medical School. I committed to... How to Zone Out of SDN? Test percentile ranks for college vs med school selection?
Hello, As an upcoming applicant, I saw that MCAT medians have been creeping up year by year- same as how SAT/ACT did. Take WashU for example- their 25% ACT is a 32 (same for a lot of other top schools). For its med school, 519 is their 25% for accepted students. 519 is also the 25% for a handful of other schools as well (UChicago, NYU, + a few others I think??). So I'm wondering because back when I was applying to colleges I was told that a 32 would make many top 20 schools a huge... Test percentile ranks for college vs med school selection? Obtaining postdoc hours while working at a SLAC?
Hello everyone! I have received a few interviews for positions at small liberal arts colleges (SLACs), which are an ideal fit for me. I am still on my predoctoral internship, and will have to complete postdoctoral requirements if I want to pursue licensure (which I do). Can anyone speak to their experiences, or provide some general information, about making arrangements with your department to pursue licensing requirements as new faculty (e.g., identifying someone willing to supervise... Applying to both medical schools and masters programs as a back up?
How do individuals go about this? lets say I apply to a medical school and their masters program as a precautionary just so if I don't get in I have a back up plan. Will the colleges that I apply to both know? If I don't get in I would like to be able to start the masters with linkage immediately. I've tried finding posts like this but had no luck. Thanks in advance for the help. Edit: I have confidence in getting in to medical school but I like to look for the worst case scenario and plan... Double Major or just take random classes that peak my interest?
okay so bottom line is: I have a LOT of extra time in my schedule. I could graduate early but I'd rather take an extra year to make myself more competitive for medical school applications. I am currently a B.S. Human Biology major with a minor in Business. Should I... 1.) Take on another major in Chemistry or 2.) Take courses in different colleges (arts, psychology, anthropology, etc.) ? I already know that double majoring would not make me more competitive in the application process, but... Which schools don't accept community college prerequisites?
Hello everyone, I was looking at the Tufts requirements: Please wait... and they said they don't accept prerequisites from community colleges. I completed my high-school and associates together at once at a community college, and honestly thought it wouldn't be an issue, since its actually getting ahead than others. I have most of my eng/math/humanities credits from there, plus my bio 1&2. I've been taking other bio courses and all other sciences at Uni... Midwestern University - leader in predatory education
While there is much debate about student loans and the responsibility that colleges themselves bear on the cost of education, I thought it would be interesting to look at which DO school in the nation is the most expensive. And the most expensive DO school in the nation award goes to Midwestern University: CCOM campus $71,376 (1st year tuition and fees) and AZCOM $69,253. With the way it is going, the tuition is very well on track to reach $100,000 within the next 10 years (Of course, their... Preferable SUNY School for Pre-Med
Hi, so I'm almost done with creating my final college list for which colleges I'm applying to. I want to apply to one of the SUNY schools, but I've been seeing a lot of mixed reviews regarding which SUNY school is best for premed/med school prerequisites. The following colleges that I'm stuck on are Albany, Geneseo, and Stony Brook (the others are either not on my list because of the safety around campus concern or after seeing certain comments regarding how their professors are). I will be... Preferable SUNY School for Pre-Med (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Strengthening my app
As someone who needed to reinvent, I started my post-bacc at my local state college(what Fl calls community colleges now) with a 3.04 GPA approximately 1.5 years ago. I'll only have a few upper level sciences when applying. I'll be taking Biochem I and II at my state college, and I'm looking to take possibly genetics and micro at the closest university as I'll have a lighter course load to allow for a commute when I'm preparing for the MCAT. My goal is to apply next year. Is raising from a... Strengthening my app (Source: Student Doctor Network)
