Premed or not
My daughter has been accepted to top colleges for electrical engineering but she is now considering to switch to Life Science and premed in an UC. She is attending a competitive high school and has straight A's except for a B in one quarter of her AP Chem class (an A in another quarter). She got 5's in all the numerous AP exams taken except that she got her only 4 in AP Chem.
Her classes were online due to Covid when she was taking AP Chem and she didn't have a good teacher either. Those...

Florida to ban DEI programming and instruction; eliminate university tenure
DeSantis puts into action his plan to end "woke activism"
Florida governor Ron DeSantis vowed to defund DEI initiatives on the same day his hand-picked trustees convened at New College of Florida and fired the president.
www.insidehighered.com
Under this proposal, DeSantis will:
-Not allow any DEI programming or education in Florida public colleges or universities, even if it’s funded by non-state sources
-Give presidents and university trustees the ability to...

Opinion; Expanding Podiatric Residency for MD/DOs
Would the profession of podiatry as a whole benefit if Podiatry / Foot & Ankle Surgery becomes an MD/DO, ACGME accredited 3 year residency program? Clearly, this decision will call for demise of the Podiatric Colleges and put a huge dent on these "Dean/CEOs" who only have money as their best interest over the quality of student education. Furthermore, it will alleviate the concerns for Podiatric Residencies closing as the numbers of graduates are ever decreasing due to low recruitment...

Completing undergrad in 2 years
Hi
I used lot of AP credits and CC credits and therefore I have only taken 1 semester each of science courses in undergrad leaving me in track to graduate in 2 years with a BA. So far my GPA is 3.9 and I am planning Masters for another 2 years before I apply to Med school. Would I be a competitive applicant at that point as my intention is to apply to state schools (They are in top 40 as per US news) ? The colleges do mention accepting AP credits. Market Harvesting/Why we shouldn't worry about more Podiatry Colleges
I was reading through the pre-pod forums and noticed there are more attendings commenting than there are pre-pods. This led me to wander into some interesting hypotheticals.
What if it's already over? What if the decline in applicants is permanent? I think the negativity can be excessive but I'm not going to be a useful idiot for the apma either. Look at the salient facts:
$250k+ debt
7 years
120-160k mean salary according to PM News
That's it. Pre-health students ain't...

Desperation for enrollment at NYCPM
Look at this desperation for enrollment. I got this email this morning from Dr. Trepal dean at NYCPM…
A Letter from NYCPM’s
Vice President for
Academic Affairs and Dean
Dear NYCPM Alumni:
I hope you’re having a productive and satisfying autumn.
The autumn season is the time of year when colleges of podiatric medicine step up their recruitment efforts for next September’s class. As you might be aware, recruitment for all podiatric medical colleges has been experiencing a downward...

Best Med School Options for Rhode Islanders?
Hopefully I can explain my situation without going too much into detail. Basically, I was born and raised in RI. After knowing I wanted to go to medical school, I applied to colleges with that in mind. I applied to a few BA/MD programs, of which I got into none, but I got into the schools themselves. I also applied to some colleges with EAPs, ending up choosing Tufts over Brown, figuring it would be somewhat easier to get into medical school and more convenient if it all worked out (no MCAT...
