Comparative analysis of human tear fluid and aqueous humor proteomes
CONCLUSION: Although tear fluid and the AH are functionally independent and physically separated, many of the proteins detected in AH were also detected in tears. This direct comparison of the proteomic content of tear fluid and AH may aid in further investigation of tear fluid as a source of readily accessible biomarkers for various human diseases.PMID:38561100 | DOI:10.1016/j.jtos.2024.03.011 (Source: The Ocular Surface)

Management after cataract surgery for patients with diabetic retinopathy: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionThe present meta-analysis suggests that anti-VEGF drugs can effectively slow down the progression of diabetic retinopathy, improve BCVA, and reduce MT in DR patients who underwent cataract surgery. Steroid drugs also show promise in reducing MT. However, further studies with larger sample sizes are required to compare the efficacy and safety of different management options in a multi-center clinical setting. The efficacy of bandage contact lens in relieving the aggravation of dry eye disease after complicated cataract or/and IOL surgery
In the present study, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy of the bandage contact lens (BCLs) in the treatment of dry eye disease (DED) after complicated cataract or/and intraocular lens (IOL) surgery. (Source: BMC Ophthalmology)

Estimation of angle parameters by ASOCT and biometric parameters by optical biometer in eyes with occludable angles and open angles
ConclusionsASOCT and SSOCT biometry overcome the challenges of gonioscopy and allow screening for angle closure disease in otherwise normal subjects. ASOCT may serve as an alternative to gonioscopy as it clearly separates occludable angles from open angles in a non-invasive and objective manner. (Source: International Ophthalmology)

Visual outcomes after cataract surgery in monocular compared to binocular patients: a case –control study
ConclusionsThis study illustrates that cataract surgery in monocular patients is not more complicated than in binocular patients, but that it is significantly delayed. (Source: International Ophthalmology)

The Hsa_circ_0105558/miR-182-5p/ATF6 Cascade Affects H < sub > 2 < /sub > O < sub > 2 < /sub > -Triggered Oxidative Damage and Apoptosis of Human Lens Epithelial Cells
Biochem Genet. 2024 Mar 26. doi: 10.1007/s10528-024-10753-1. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAge-related cataract (ARC) is the prevalent cause of useful vision loss. Circular RNAs are related to ARC pathogenesis partly through their competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) activity. Herein, we defined the action of hsa_circ_0105558 in hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)-driven apoptosis and oxidative damage in human lens epithelial SRA01/04 cells. Hsa_circ_0105558, microRNA (miR)-182-5p and activating transcription factor 6 (ATF6) were evaluated by a qRT-PCR or immunoblotting method. The hsa_circ_0105558/miR-182-5p and miR-182-5p/ATF6 relation...

Genes, Vol. 15, Pages 413: Causal Associations of Glaucoma and Age-Related Macular Degeneration with Cataract: A Bidirectional Two-Sample Mendelian Randomisation Study
This study investigated the potential causal relationship between glaucoma and AMD with cataract using genetic data from multi-ethnic populations. Single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with exposure to cataract were selected as instrumental variables (IVs) from genome-wide association studies using meta-analysis data from BioBank Japan and UK Biobank. A bidirectional two-sample Mendelian randomisation (MR) study was conducted to assess the causal estimates using inverse variance weighted, MR-Egger, and MR pleiotropy residual sum and outlier tests. SNPs with (p < 5.0 × 10−8...
