Prices and complications in hospital-based and freestanding surgery centers
CONCLUSIONS: The higher prices charged in HOPDs for the 3 ambulatory procedures were not balanced by better quality-as measured by rates of procedural complications-compared with procedures performed in nonhospital ASCs.PMID:38603532 | DOI:10.37765/ajmc.2024.89529 (Source: The American Journal of Managed Care)

Visual supplementation is an effective tool in cataract surgery counselling by eye-care practitioners
CONCLUSION: Pictorial aids add to the repository of tools available to eye-care practitioners and are low-cost, easy to implement, and can effectively augment existing preoperative counselling processes to ensure accurate and effective preoperative counselling of patients.PMID:38603893 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfo.2024.104175 (Source: Journal Francais d Ophtalmologie)

Epidemiological, Clinical, and Therapeutic Profile of Uveitis in Multiple Sclerosis: A Multicenter Study
CONCLUSION: MS-associated uveitis occurs most frequently before the diagnosis of relapsing-remitting MS in the form of panuveitis or intermediate uveitis, which is mildly inflammatory and whose main complications are macular edema, cataract and venous vasculitis. Despite their chronicity, these uveitis cases have a good visual prognosis and teriflunomide appears to have a positive effect on progression.PMID:38602890 | DOI:10.1080/09273948.2024.2337839 (Source: Ocular Immunology and Inflammation)

The generation and characterization of a transgenic zebrafish line with lens-specific Cre expression
CONCLUSIONS: We established a zTg(cryaa:Cre-cryaa:EGFP) zebrafish line that can specifically express an active Cre recombinase in lens tissues. This transgenic zebrafish line can be used as a tool to specifically manipulate a gene in zebrafish lenses.PMID:38601019 | PMC:PMC11006009 (Source: Molecular Vision)

Atypical phacolytic glaucoma diagnosed by biometry and anterior segment optical coherence tomography (OCT) in a patient with CMV anterior uveitis
CONCLUSION: This is the first time that we image and document the phacolytic nature of a natural lens. Our patient did not have the typical clinical presentation and was differentially diagnosed with biometry SS-OCT and confirmed by anterior segment SD-OCT.PMID:38602030 | DOI:10.1177/11206721241246816 (Source: European Journal of Ophthalmology)

Replacing the postoperative week 1 visit after routine phacoemulsification with a telephone consult
CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that replacing the POW1 visit with a nurse-conducted telephone consult for patients who have undergone uncomplicated phacoemulsification surgery and had a normal POD1 consultation is safe.PMID:38604239 | DOI:10.1016/j.jcjo.2024.03.015 (Source: Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology)
