Carcinoid syndrome caused by a pulmonary carcinoid mimics intestinal manifestations of ulcerative colitis: A case report
CONCLUSION: We report and emphasize pulmonary carcinoid as a differential diagnosis in patients with nonresponding inflammatory bowel diseases and recurrent pneumonia.PMID:37731996 | PMC:PMC10507508 | DOI:10.3748/wjg.v29.i33.5014 (Source: World Journal of Gastroenterology : WJG)

Incidence, clinical characteristics, and survival outcomes of ovarian strumal diseases: a retrospective cohort study
Struma ovarii (SO) is a rare tumor and may transform into ovarian strumal carcinoid (OSC) and/or malignant struma ovarii (MSO), but the incidence, clinical characteristics, and survival outcomes have not been ... (Source: BMC Women's Health)

Best imaging signs identified by radiomics could outperform the model: application to differentiating lung carcinoid tumors from atypical hamartomas
ConclusionsA radiomics signature can distinguish hamartomas from carcinoids with an AUC  = 0.76. Median density <  10 HU and >  60 HU on 3D or 2D-ROIs may be useful in clinical practice to diagnose these tumors with confidence, but 3D is more reproducible.Critical relevance statementRadiomic features help to identify the most discriminating imaging signs using random forest. ‘Median’ attenuation value (Hounsfield units), extracted from 3D-segmentations on contrast-enhanced chest-CTs, could distinguish carcinoids from atypical hamartomas (AUC = 0.85), was reproducible (ICC = 0.97), and generali...

Metastatic well differentiated serotonin-producing pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor with carcinoid heart disease: a case report
CONCLUSIONS: Our case highlights the importance of multidisciplinary care for patients with pancreatic NETs and early identification and management of CHD. Although uncommon, serotonin-producing pancreatic NETs can present with CHD and require combination of somatostatin analogs, liver-directed therapy, and heart failure management.PMID:37720425 | PMC:PMC10502540 | DOI:10.21037/jgo-22-909 (Source: Cancer Control)

Endoscopic Ultrasonography-Guided Fine-Needle Aspiration for Duodenal Subepithelial Lesions Showing a Hypoechoic Mass on Endoscopic Ultrasound Imaging
CONCLUSIONS: Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration for duodenal subepithelial lesions with hypoechoic mass was safe and accurate. As duodenal subepithelial lesion with hypoechoic mass has a reasonably high possibility of containing malignant tumors, it is desirable to perform endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration.PMID:37681269 | DOI:10.5152/tjg.2023.22696 (Source: The Turkish Journal of Gastroenterology)
