Retrospective Analysis of Burn Injuries in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder
J Autism Dev Disord. 2024 Apr 12. doi: 10.1007/s10803-024-06334-1. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChildren with neurodevelopmental disorders are at risk for burn injury, but the clinical outcomes, particularly mortality, are unknown in this patient population in the United States (U.S.). The main objectives of this study are to evaluate (1) subject characteristics; (2) burn injury type; (3) clinical care provided; and (4) mortality in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), hypothesizing that this patient population has similar mortality and critical care management requirements when compared to children without ASD. ...

Reported Outcome Measures in Complex Fracture Elbow Dislocations: A Systematic Review
CONCLUSION: There is great heterogeneity in reported PROMs in the complex elbow fracture dislocation literature. Although there is no gold standard PROM for assessing complex elbow fracture dislocations, we recommend the use of at least the MEPS and DASH outcomes measures as well as VAS pain rating scale in future studies to facilitate cross-study comparisons.PMID:38609003 | DOI:10.1016/j.jse.2024.02.038 (Source: Hand Surgery)

Enhanced Sun Protection Factor Of Octocrylene With Green Tea And Bhringraj Extracts
Cutan Ocul Toxicol. 2024 Apr 12:1-27. doi: 10.1080/15569527.2024.2340440. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe overexposure of human skin to ultraviolet radiation (UVR) can trigger photodamage, UV burn, pigmentation, erythema, and enhance the chance of dermal carcinoma. UVR causes DNA damage, leading to dermal cancer. Daily sunscreen application protects the skin from the adverse effects of sun rays, particularly UVB (290-320 nm) and UVA (320-400 nm). The ozone layer filters UVC (200-290 nm) radiation upon entry into the Earth's atmosphere. UVB causes sunburn, photo damage, and induces mutagenic changes in nucleic acids. UVA ...

Albumin: a comprehensive review and practical guideline for clinical use
ConclusionAlbumin administration is most indicated in management of cirrhosis complications. Fluid resuscitation or treatment of severe and refractory edema, especially in patients with hypoalbuminemia and not responding to other treatments, is another rational use for albumin. Implementation of evidence-based guidelines in hospitals can be an effective measure to reduce inappropriate uses of albumin. (Source: European Journal of Clinical Pharmacology)

< em > Amaranthus hybridus < /em > waste solid biofuel: comparative and machine learning studies
This study aims at developing bio-briquettes from Amaranthus hybridus waste, with cassava starch as a binder; both are agricultural wastes. Before and following delignification, alkali-treated Amaranthus hybridus (TAHB) and untreated (UAHB) briquettes were evaluated in terms of combustion and physicochemical parameters. FTIR and SEM were utilized to monitor the morphological transformation and bond restructuring of TAHB and UAHB samples. EDXRF was used to assess the Potential Toxic Elements (PTEs) composition and environmental friendliness of both TAHB and UAHB. Furthermore, Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) an...

Acute Rejection Rates in Vascularized Composite Allografts: A Systematic Review of Case Reports
CONCLUSIONS: In contrast to previous statements, the field of VCA is not rapidly evolving, as it has encountered challenges in addressing immune-related concerns. This is highlighted by the absence of a standardized immunosuppression regimen. Consequently, more substantial data are required to draw more conclusive results regarding the immunogenicity of VCAs and the potential superiority of one immunosuppressive treatment over another. Future efforts should be made to report the VCA surgeries comprehensively, and muti-institutional long-term prospective follow-up studies should be performed to compare the number of acute r...
