Comparison of clinical characteristics between ACOSOG Z0011-eligible cohort and sentinel lymph node-positive breast cancer patients in Hong Kong
CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated that clinicopathological features were comparable between SLN-positive breast cancer patients undergoing mastectomy and those undergoing breast-conserving treatment. Low-risk SLN-positive mastectomy patients may safely avoid completion axillary lymph node dissection.PMID:38523397 | DOI:10.12809/hkmj2210286 (Source: Hong Kong Med J)

Clinicopathological Predictors of Positive Resection Margins in Breast-Conserving Surgery
CONCLUSIONS: Compared with pure IBC, the relative risk of a positive margin with IBC + DCIS is approximately ninefold, significantly higher than prior estimates. This margin-level methodology is believed to represent the impact of DCIS more accurately on margin positivity in IBC.PMID:38520579 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-024-15153-8 (Source: Ann Oncol)

A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of the Role of Preoperative MRI in In-breast Tumor Recurrence After Breast-Conserving Surgery
CONCLUSIONS: Although some evidence supports the hypothesis that identification of additional tumors in the breast using pMRI results in lower rates of IBTR after BCS, the main meta-analysis in this study did not confirm this hypothesis.PMID:38520578 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-023-14746-z (Source: Ann Oncol)

Inhibition of breast cancer cell growth and migration through siRNA-mediated modulation of circ_0009910/miR-145-5p/MUC1 axis
Noncoding RNA Res. 2024 Jan 26;9(2):367-375. doi: 10.1016/j.ncrna.2024.01.016. eCollection 2024 Jun.ABSTRACTCircular RNAs (circRNAs) characterize a novel kind of regulatory RNAs distinguished by great evolutionary conservation and constancy. Although their exact role in malignancies is not fully understood, they mainly work through specific axes. Circular RNA/miRNA/mRNA axes affect the pathogenesis of human cancers including breast cancer. We assessed the expression and function of circ_0009910/miR-145-5p/MUC1 axis in Breast Cancer tissues and MCF-7 cells. Expression levels of circ_0009910 and MUC1 were notably increased i...

Changes in Radiation Therapy: New Ultrahypofractionated Radiation, Repeat Breast Conservation Therapy in the Management of Breast Recurrence with Re-irradiation, Proton Therapy
AbstractPurpose of ReviewManagement of breast cancer is multidisciplinary, balancing local and systemic control between treatment modalities. Surgical, radiation, and medical therapies are combined to give the best prognosis. The goal of this review is to examine the advancements in radiotherapy in the treatment of breast cancer.Recent FindingsPublished data supports the shortening of radiation schedules through ultrahypofractionation and utilizing new energy sources through proton beam radiation. Emerging techniques have minimized radiation dosage to organs at risk and skin when compared to traditional radiation sources a...
